[*]Syracuse and Texas Southern will meet for the second time in three years and third time overall. The Orange have won the two previous meetings between the schools. The Tigers will play 13 straight road games to start the season before hosting Southern on Jan. 1 in their home opener. [*]Texas Southern was picked to win the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) title in a preseason poll of the league's head coaches. The Tigers won the 2017 conference tournament for their third championship in the last four years. [*]Guard Demontrae Jefferson is this week's SWAC Player of the Week. He averaged 21 points and 3.5 assists in games at Gonzaga and Washington State. Jefferson leads the team in both statistical categories this season.
