Gary Parrish NBA Mock Draft

Right now I think CJ is a classic tweener. He doesn't have an NBA small forward's game and he certainly doesn't have a power forward's body. He may improve his shooting and handle this year, but he will be an interesting case come draft day.
 
I think CJ would be fine if he got minutes in the NBA and had a chance to prove himself. Unfortunately he isn't sexy to NBA scouts and won't get that shot, I think he'll get the same sort of shot that KJo has gotten, it will not be an easy road for him.

If he's ACC player of the year he gets drafted. Especially if he shoots well. The nba needs shooters and he gets better at that every year.

plus, he'll be 23 when training camp opens. Guys that old really have to wow them to get drafted - think Wes Johnson: BE Player of the Year, Consensus First Team All American.

CJ definitely has improved his percentage from three, but he's still not a shooter. He's selective - and that's a good thing - but a shooter shoots. Going back to Wes, for comparison - he attempted 3.5 threes per game, Southerland attempted nearly 4.5 per game last year. CJ attempted 1.6 threes per game. CJ takes and makes open shots, but its not the same as being a shooter, who is asked to find and take shots that are more contested.

CJ isn't on this list. He has Tyler Ennis going in the 2nd round. Is Ennis a 1 and doner???

I love CJ - he has the potential to be one of my top 5 favorite Orange players ever. That said, I'm going to apply my rule of thumb that "if he was going to be in the NBA, he'd already be in the NBA."

He's a tremendously consistent and reliable college player, but I just don't see him as an NBA small forward. I would love to be wrong.
 
this is a mock draft that assumes that every single person goes pro this year.

Grant is a no doubt 1st rounder, should he decide to leave after this yr.

CJ not getting drafted isn't unthinkable. Up to this point he's scored most of his points with that 2 or 3 dribble drive to his left into the paint for a layup or baby hook. I don't think he'll get those in the NBA. Even more than increased shooting, I think he'll have to demonstrate better ball handling, especially with his right hand, and an improved ability to break guys down off the dribble.

Of course, there's nothing wrong with being drafted low or going undrafted, if that's what happens. There are plenty of great college players who's games didn't translate to the NBA. Moten is one of them.

please read the explanation of the mock draft. this does not mean he is predicting that CJ doesnt get drafted.

I did, and it doesn't change my opinion. I didn't state that he'll definitely go undrafted. I said it's not unthinkable. Please read my post and realize it's an opinion based on what I've seen of CJ and how I think it projects to the NBA. Specifically, I think he gets drafted but doesn't hang around long. I agree with the poster that thinks he'll have a long career overseas if that's what he wants.

You need to understand that the article in the OP is a catalyst for conversation.

Ill never read anything written by Parrish. This is one of the few rules I live by. The dude sucks at his job. CBS has the worst sports journos over all other major sports syndicators. And that's saying something.

I would love to save all the mock drafts from this time of year and compare them to what really happens. So much is gonna change.

i did call them idiots... but only when i realized i was an idiot too for doing the same thing. my 1st few posts on the thread were very civil.
