I've been overwhelmed by Friday's win. Leading up to the game I posted about the opportunity to beat Clemson being the right time for a generational win. It happened. There were a lot of things that contributed to the win but SU beat the reigning national champions and a favorite to repeat in the CFB playoff. Babers et al moved the ball consistently, the defense stopped a bigger faster offense, our kicker made his field goals, and Coach Babers beat Coach Swinney, with a lot of mutual respect being given. This kind of win gives the team confidence and encourages fans to come to the dome to witness the renewal of SU football. So many of you have been loyal, long-term, supporters of the program and have endured a decade+ period of mediocrity after the good times of the 80s & 90s. I feel good for you diehards that got some payback on Friday night. I was fortunate in 1984 to go to the Nebraska game. My brother worked for Dupont and their employee club bought season tickets to share among their members. Somehow he ended up with two tickets and we witnessed the incredible win over the #1 team. It's still one of my favorite days. That win made me a more intense fan and led SU into a long period of success. It was a grand time to be a fan. I have to say that this feels like the same kind of moment, with a great opportunity to become a significant program yet again. Babers is the real deal with the right amount of respect for an opponent, the right amount of emotional leadership for a team that so badly wants to win, and who is convincing the best of the best of the best to come to Syracuse to win, and in a big way. Folks seem worried that Dino is going to move on soon, but I think he sees the dome as ideal for his system and a place he could contend for the ACC championship & beyond. If he leaves, it will be after he has accomplished something special and I'm ok with that. This is going to be another grand time to be a fan.
