I just looked it up. They went 4-10 vs the RPI top 50. Obviously the committee rewarded them for playing 14 games against the top 50, but shouldn't you have to win half of those to be seeded that high? And of course they are Duke's 4 seed.

For comparison sake we went 3-7 vs the RPI top 50. We would not have made the tournament. I agree with that. But how are they a 4 seed with that resume?

Doug Gottlieb asked the committee chairman about that on the CBS bracket show and essentially said they rewarded teams for playing a tougher schedule. As you said though, it shouldn't be enough just to play those games, you should have to win some. I'm more baffled by UCLA, we had a MUCH stronger resume than them.

For whatever it's worth, here are the records of the 4 seeds against the top 50

Lousville: 3-7
UNC: 7-10
Maryland: 5-4

I'm not sure I know how to look this up, but I doubt there were 16 teams that were plus 500 against the RPI top 50. Btw, not necessarily a defense of Gtown, there were sub 500 against even 26-50.

Teams over or at .500, not on top 4 lines

SMU 5-4
Northern Iowa 3-2
VCU 5-5
Arkansas 4-2

Other Big East Teams
Xavier 8-7
Butler 6-8
Providence 6-8

So in essence Georgetown got awareded for playing better against mid level teams. Ask Colorado St or Temple what playing well against mid level teams normally gets you

Louisville should have been a 5. However the quality of their 3 top 5o wins blows away the quality of Georgetown's wins.

The committee did alot of small mistakes such as Louisville being a #4. They only made a couple major mistakes:
1) UCLA - What was really scary about the UCLA selection was the justification.
2) Georgetown as a 4

It was impossible for them to really screw up the top 3 lines too bad --- and they did not. I don't think BYU should have made it, but it is not egregious.

Yeah that seemed a little high to me.

I don't know if anyone has this info easily accessible, but between Iowa, ND, and Lville, we won 3 games (only one at home) against teams in the top half of the draw. How does that compare to other bubble teams? I believe I saw Georgia had one win period against a tournament team, Ole Miss.

I really want the artist formerly known a The Big East to get beat down in the tourney. Way too much respect given to that conference.

Can't agree more, that was my big takeaway from last night. The Committee LOVES the Big East since they can justify it with the top 50 wins argument. Having a league with 5 teams between 25-50 shouldn't reward them so much...Xavier as a 6?? They have 13(!) losses. A bubble team getting a 6 seed smh.

The committee did a terrible job with seeding this year. Utah is the most underated 5 seed in recent memory. They were 24-8 and ranked 8th in Kenpom out of a power conference and were given a 5?!? that makes no sense to me.

How is Northern Iowa a 5 seed, but Wichita St. a 7? They have virtually the same resume.

I would of flip flopped Notre Dame and Kansas.

Zona should of had a one instead of Duke.

SMU is underrated. They have a better profile than Louisville.

Michigan St, and North Carolina have similar profiles, one ends up a seven seed, the other a 4.

And finally, Georgetown has the same profile as Ohio State, they are a 4 and Ohio State is a 10.

My 14 year old nephew would of did a better job than these AD's.

Would have really shaken up the bracket if Arizona got the #1, as they should have, instead of Duke. AZ #1 in the West, WI #1 in the Midwest, UK #1 in the South.

As it is, Duke has the smoothest shot to the FF, with SD St/St Johns's, Utah/G'Town, and a questionable Gonzaga (although, IA St may emerge from the bottom of that bracket).

Agree with your parenthesis. Duke has a pretty clear run, but Iowa State, if they get there, will be a tough challenge at the Regional Final. Also, there is no Lehigh in Duke's path this year.

They gave the big east way too much respect, I thought Gtown was a 6 or 7 seed, and Xavier was going to be in the 8/9 game.

Iowa St. the most dangerous possible Duke foe in the regionals

Regarding Georgetown, if you look at their games against the top 50 RPI, they did pretty well despite the record.

They lost to Wisconsin by 3, Butler by 6, Kansas by 5, Providence by 3 (twice), Xavier by 2, and then they had a couple double digit losses. Also beat Nova by 20 and St. John's by 22. KenPom likes them a lot too. Not sure the 4 seed is accurate, but they have a pretty solid resume this year.

In other words, they look good losing.
YES, THEY DO!
This seeding is a good thing.
It means their first round loss will be even more embarrassing.

Providence sweeps Georgetown, plays @Kentucky, beats Notre Dame, Miami, Florida State on neutral floors, beats Rhode Island and UMass and gets a 6 seed, but because Georgetown beat Indiana on a neutral floor, played Wisconsin, Kansas, and Florida they are two lines higher?

Providence lost to Brown, but that shouldn't negate the h2h sweep. Providence finished 11-7 and Georgetown 12-6. The committee is freaking crazy with their rationale this year. NC State played a tough schedule and they were given an 8 seed.
