We knew that more offensive possessions for us also means more offensive possessions for them, which means they can run more plays than normal and therefore get more yardage. At the end of the day a 36 point loss sucks but we also had over 400 yards on offense against a team that is probably gonna be top 10 this year. This game had bright spots.

Can we just be honest about the problem? The defensive talent is just awful. We don't have one defensive back who doesn't have an extensive history of getting torched badly, our starting D-Ends are a converted 300 pound DTackle and a true freshman and our outside linebackers are both sub 210. We have virtually zero depth on the defensive side and not one player who would start on an ACC defense that was above average. I think we might have 2-3 players who would make the 2 deep of the best teams in our division on D.

The philosophy behind implementing the Tampa 2 is sound; you limit the big play by making them work in front of the defense. Unfortunately we have what was probably the worst secondary in my entire time watching SU football last year and those are the guys we are still depending on. Like others I am happy we've actually decided to take our lumps and get a solid system installed rather than deciding to bend to the lack of talent of the players.
