Last year teams put their best defender on Buddy, every frigging night.  Joe was the third option on the scouting report.  Like Buddy was his sophomore year.  He got wide open looks last year and took advantage.  But that team could not defend or rebound no matter how many points we scored.

This year it’s really been split on how teams have defended us. Some chose to put their best defender on Judah, and others decide to lock up Joe.  Joes never really drawn the top defender consistently, probably because he doesn’t deserve that type of attention.

Joe is simply easier to defend because you can put a smaller quick player on him.  You couldn’t do that with buddy - he shot right over them like he did in the ncaas his Jr year.

Stats are the result of talent and strategy. I don’t know why so many people choose to ignore the second part of this equation.  Stevie Thompson had a great shooting pct because he only shot layups and dunks. I swear some would champion him the greatest shooter in Cuse history because ….um….stats.

Asking your best player to take really hard shots because it still might be the best option is going to hurt stats, but may win games. “80% of Derrick Coleman is better than 100% of Derek Brower” I think JB once said.

He has consistently asked his best players to stretch their scoring abilities when needed on offensively challenged teams….GMAC, Burgan Buddy Damone Brown….just to name a few.  It’s kills stats, but probably maxed out win totals most years.
