Last night was probably as bad as any game in recent memory. NC would get 2 or 3 chances every time down the court. Very frustrating. Here are a few of my thoughts on this.

1-The zone itself does not lend to superior defensive rebounding which we all know.
2-Lack of bulk means our guys do get pushed around.
3-Both our centres have a problem hanging on to the ball when they get a chance.

4-(and a trend that is increasingly noticeable in recent years) we do not push the ball up the court on offense even when we do get a rebound. Opposing teams are not concerned about quickly getting back on defense as a result of this and thus they will send two or three guys to the offensive glass. Maybe this is due to Frank's lethargic pace or perhaps the coach wants it this way. As a comparison, how often do we crash the offensive glass with three guys?

Hughes is a softie on the boards.

Brissett was terrible last night.

Our guards stink at rebounding too. They’re never quite in right position. No knack.

Rebounding is all effort, but i'm sure the refs played a bit of a role in having that edge for the second half. Still Hughes disappearing act was painful. If you aren't going to shoot, at least crash the boards.

Hughes lack of toughness on the boards is really disappointing. He has trouble getting off the floor quickly and lacks awareness on who to box out. This offseason he absolutely NEEDS to get in better shape/ develop a motir because the talent is there

if some of our players had the motor of a kristoff or Keita, we would be a really good team. Half if not more of the issues this year are all effort related.

He's shown some potential on the boards - 10 vs Notre Dame and a few games with 6 and 7 but needs to bring that EVERY game. Also can't disappear for a half like he did last night. Love his potential but needs to work on consistency.
