My point is, next season come on out. We can do our part as fans.

If a movie gets a bad review, CNYers won't pay to see it. They'll wait until it shows up on Netflix or at the Redbox.

If a book gets a bad review, CNYers won't buy it.

If a restaurant gets a bad review, CNYers won't eat there.

Every August, the media gives SU a bad review, so CNYers stay home and watch on TV for free.

If you want to fill the Dome again, win games. Lots of games.

Pay money to watch a bad product?

Womens basketball has turned a corner, fill the dome and support them.

My wife said this to me for the first time yesterday. Mind you we've both been going up there since childhood, and, have had season's together for about a decade. She was iffy about going (just had a baby a week and a half ago). So I said, last home game of the season, and we're going to win! Remember BC last year? Why wouldn't you want to go?

She said, because they suck right now, the offense is horrendous. Who would want to go?

I've never heard her talk like that about Syracuse, and it made me think. This is exactly how a probably big % of the fan base thinks.

I'll be there regardless, but, to get the fringe back, just win baby.

SU will be giving away tickets next year and beyond until the team starts to win consistently.

We will see a slight spark in avg Attendance this year?

Baby steps...

You have kids in multiple weekend activities...

You watch it in your iphone (maybe). Has nothing to do with not wanting to go.

Not pickung on you but i hate that argument.

It appears Dr. Gross, (doctor of what?) doesn't really care about the fans. I sit in the cheap seats. I can't hear a thing with all the noise and the constant commercials. I can't see the uniform numbers. So I can't see and I can't hear. What a positive experience. The athletic department is getting like the Pentagon - bloated with people who make things worse. If it wasn't for SyracuseFan I wouldn't go or be a fan. Change the uniforms. Only an idiot doesn't listen to his customers

I, like Crusty wonder if we will ever be good again. I told friends before the Northwestern game in 2012 that I just wanted them to play well. We lost the game but they played well. It was a start. I have personally seen eight games this year and they have only played well in one or two. I was at the BC game last year and couldn't believe how bad we looked in the Villanova game.

Special teams are the worst I've seen in 40 years. The players deserve better.

So, we've given the home fans a lot of losses recently. On top of that, we rarely score points.

People say just win, baby. That's not enough. Winning ugly, winning by the skin of your teeth in a low scoring affair... that is not fun.

We need the games to be fun. Scoring points is fun. Let's score some points and win in an entertaining way.

Because the wind will blow those leaves away anyways. Raking them is not that big of a deal.

How about this. Go to the games because you are an alumni.

Just thinking. Maybe easier Non Conference schedule

For example (This season Take out Maryland at home, Met Life Notre Dame game) replace with lets say Tulane, and Buffalo.

Get's us closer to bowl contention, people will come to the games, maybe less player injuries.

I will still go to the games regardless. Just some thoughts.

Didn't think of this until I saw this thread this morning, but the relation to our best running meme seems appropriate.

I was out raking leaves after dark last night. With Daylight Savings, rainfall every other day, Fine Mess/Duke/bars on Saturday, and other obligations on Sunday, last night was the only opportunity to do this chore that desperately needed doing.

But only someone who lives and breathes SU sports would do a ridiculous thing like that. 99% of the local population wouldn't burn a whole Saturday on a Syracuse football while foregoing family and life obligations, and rightly so.

This team isn't getting any Dome support until it starts winning for an extended period. Maybe not until it starts winning and scoring 30+ points each game.

That means we're looking at a 2015 season with 35,000 in the house on most Saturdays, 20,000 of whom aren't there at kickoff and are long gone in the fourth quarter. I just hope our group of a dozen decides to renew. If it weren't for LSU, I'd be reconsidering.

i think even this is a little unfair to syracuse fans

since 2003, they're 18-40 against BCS/P5 at home and avg 21 ppg

Throw out gerg.
2003-2004+2009-2014, they're 15-23 24 ppg.

7 and 16 since Marrone took over, 22 ppg.

their record stinks and they don't score.

30 ppg would be a 36% improvement.

It's remarkable that attendance is as high as it is, considering those numbers.

it's funny how people who couldn't possibly get to a home game pretend like they would go all the time if they could

they're never in the position of thinking "do i really want to do this again?"

That, and the fact that this is necessarily a zero sum situation. There are a ton of other things that we could do from 10:30-4:00 on a Saturday (and let's be honest, what we've been doing during that time tends to wreck the rest of the day, too).

The tailgates are fun. Once we're in the building, it's less entertaining (Saturday's spectacle of one high school football player in 331 throwing his friend down several rows of bleachers and the subsequent cop/firefighter/EMT response notwithstanding).

Our attendance really isn't that terrible, as long as people stop stupidly comparing it to Alabama and Ohio State.

I mean last year SU drew 38K/game, which brought about the usual wailing, gnashing of teeth, and venomous posts about locals, students and alumni.

Meanwhile, Baylor (the 11-2 record, crazy point scoring Baylor) drew 45K. What about some other private P5 schools?...

TCU: 44K
Northwestern: 39K
BC: 33K
Duke: 26K
Stanford: 51K
Miami (FL): 54K
Vanderbilt: 36K

Or maybe some public P5s:

Utah: 45K
UVA: 46K
Arizona: 47K
Colorado: 38K
Illinois: 43K
Kansas: 37K
Oregon State: 43K

We look just fine compared to a wide range of peer schools.

SU attendance actually operates in a remarkably narrow band. We draw in the upper 40s when we're really good, and in the upper 30s/low 40s when we're mediocre.

If we were to list out the top 10 things we should be seriously concerned about regarding the program, attendance shouldn't crack that list.

Baylor's new stadium is all kinds of beautiful

I should clarify that I'm less concerned about announced numbers (in a small building in a small market) as I am with how many empty seats there are and for what percentage of the game.

Our ticket sales used to roughly resemble the turnstile count, give or take. In the last three or four years, the two look really far apart (and this goes for a lot of basketball games, too). The Dome is half-empty until early in the first quarter, it gets about two-thirds full until halftime, then people trickle out again. I don't think we come within 5,000 people of whatever they announce.

To me, percentage of capacity is a better number than the raw attendance figure. (Baylor probably looks good there, with their exciting team and new stadium.)

Score more points. If you are going to struggle year in and year out to be a 6-6 football team at least make the product entertaining to watch. Power Running game is not fun to watch. Get a wide open offense play high scoring games and you will raise the attendance from the high 30's to the low 40's I think.
