If you watch enough football, you will see games every season, both college and NFL, where the QB can't communicate with his team because of crowd noise. Sometimes it leads to forced TOs, other times it leads to the ball being snapped before the QB is ready, resulting in a fumble. Anyone remember the 1st play in the last Super Bowl? That was a direct result of crowd noise. I also believe that emotion plays a role in football. A large, loud crowd can lead to a higher level of play from the home team.
