trying to meet some people half way to play golf on the west side of syracuse

I see Timber banks and Camilus or Raddison as options? thoughts and better options?

Also

Links at Sunset Ridge in Marcellus.
Tanner Valley in Syracuse/Marcellus.
Foxfire in Baldwinsville.
Highland in Auburn.
Dutch Hollow in Owasco.

I would play Highland over the other choices. It is always in nice shape and a fun course to play. There are some really tough greens there.

If you like a hilly course, Camillus is your best bet.

If you like par 5s, play Sunset Ridge (there are 6 of them).

Radisson has a nice design but the bunkers are hammered.

If they have dropped the prices at Timber, that would be a good choice. They don't seem to want the public to play there. Tough course, narrow greens, some really cool holes.

We ended up at Timber

I would says it over priced for what you get. No real signature holes. I can pay much less and go play Ravenwood.

The greens were punched so that made for some interesting putting

The course seemed to think having huge ridges in every green was a good thing. You get on the wrong ledge and there was nothing you could do.

Tomcat was right very narrow greens. The issue being that the GPS was not mapped to the holes and many of them we had no idea where the flag really was. Some very good shots ended up in bad spots.

Very slow play. The Club pro was talking to us on #1 and I asked what tee box to use. He said 10 and over play the green and 99% of the people do that. So, we did, but that made all but the par 5s really pretty simple nothing much over 420. The par 5s are all solid though 520 and up,

I would play it again from the back tees on a day when the greens were not messed up, but bring my Laser next time.

I doubt I will get many friends to go at that price point.

They clearly spent a lot of money building the course.

I like the back more than the front. The last 4 or 5 holes are very cool.

My biggest issue is always the cost to play it. They act like they are Turning Stone and while the course is well maintained and nice, it isn't IMHO at the same level as those courses.

They have to be losing a lot of money with this. Doesn't look like it gets much play. I predict it will get turned into housing sometime over the next 10 years.

Just like Northern Pines, Lakshore, Caughdenoy Links, Hickory Hill and The Greens at Beaumont (formerly Skyline). I think the need for space for housing and other development is going to suck up all of these courses.

Thought some might be interested in the oldest golf league in the world since it is in CNY.
As I grew up in Utica I knew about it since my days as a caddie.
They used to have records of every match going back years. Everyone is very serious about the tradition.

Played Radisson last Sunday. Tee boxes are a mess and there is grass growing in the traps. Just a mess. Guy I was playing with says the owner is hoping to sell to some developer as there will be a huge demand for house cause of Micron. He is a banker and said there will be a need for 25k homes over the next 20 years. Wow

more people wanting houses, means more people with income, which means more people who will play golf.
