I wonder how much money this would cost the teams in the WCC?

the winner gets into the NCAA so by skipping they get a team in that was not gonna get in.. that makes them more money than whatever those 2 teams playing in the WAC were gonna generate

Imagine if more did that and Baylor Mich/ILL or others who were gonna get in did the same hting and 4-5-6 teams won the conf tourney that wouldnt have gotten in,

right off I would have to think the NCAA would nix their auto bid

I don't think you see that happen in conferences where teams are playing for seeds. The Big Ten tourney gives teams chances for quality wins and moving up multiple seed lines. Gonzaga is a 1 seed regardless. BYU isn't going to benefit much by winning a few games. But, I don't like this at all.

Conference Tournaments are always a little to gain, much to lose scenario for the very, very top teams. We know this all too well. The only difference is that this year there is a credible reason for them to skip it and I can't really say I blame them for trying to.

One less bubble spot for everyone else.

As mentioned though, I could see the NCAA saying to the WCC, “ok Gonzaga and BYU don’t have to play but we’re not going to give your conference tournament winner an automatic bid then”.

Conference tournaments shouldn't even be happening this year. You are just asking for trouble by bringing in a bunch of teams for cross-contamination games over 4 or 5 days. And then those teams going to Indy 4 days later.

There needs to be at least a week where teams can quarantine themselves in Indianapolis so at least some sort of semi-bubble happens for the NCAA tournament.

Otherwise it will be a total crapshow.

But money talks,,, and it will be a total crapshow.

There will be some conference tournaments that will not happen or where certain teams can't go because of health reasons... or they can't be completed in time.

The NCAA will need to make some general rule or make arbitrary on the fly decisions. But I am sure whateever they do, it will not result in mid majors getting gifted extra teams.

Conference Tournaments don't really make sense. I thought those would have been scrapped as part of the original plan for the season to not mess up the Big Dance.

Its weird for Cuse being so firmly on the bubble but is what it us. Forcing these kids to play in the NIT is ridiculous too they all want the season to be over and restrictions to go away unless they are playing in front of tens of millions of viewers in the NCAAT.

America East (UAlbany and Vermont) announced changes today to help the teams get games in. Hopefully more will follow

Agree that conference tournaments cause more risk this year and really don’t do much for those top teams already with a projected high seed in NCAAT. Teams may not have a choice.

Can you imagine several 1 or 2 seeds having positive tests, potentially from a conf tourney, and then may not get to play in the big dance? Or what happens mid stream in the NCAAT when there’s a positive test and that throws the schedule out of whack? It’ll be interesting that’s for sure.

I'm guessing they'll just have to give the opposing team a bye. Brackets are going to be a mess...

Most leagues have mandates in league bylaws that force member schools to participate if they are able to. This is somewhat surprising to me.
