Yes, the loss stinks. A win would be marquis material. Let's see what we can take away from this loss.: 1) HCSS & Co. can coach! They can prepare well, plan well and can make adjustments as necessary. Some of us saw this earlier in the season, some were skeptical about the ability to adjust. LSU would have racked up 50+ points if the coaches had not made adjustments during the game as well as at the half. We have a good coaching staff and they know they work well together. 2) The coaches have the confidence of the kids. The kids believe in the system and the coaches and play hard. We cannot ask for more. Fournette is the real deal and LSU's O-Line is as real as they get, we will not face another O-Line that good all season. They stuck with Maloney and built his confidence. Had Maloney had his confidence early, who know, an upset could have occurred (or had Dungey been available). 3) The Defense is not a serious problem, time and experience will improve it. Defense is easier to learn than Offense and the kids did well in spite of being over matched. Each week we see improvement. None of us expected the DBs to be our strongest unit but they did well. Yes, they will have problems with FSU and Clemson speed. Considering losses to graduation, we are in good shape. Let us not forget that LSU is #8 for good reason and this defense, though allowing points, was over matched in size and speed. Also, see #6. 4) Though most of us are comfortable with Dungey, it is refreshing to know that we have a QB that can come in an play. I hope Long progresses well enough to make that number 2 backups. We hope we don't need them, but as last season taught us, you can never have to many (fill in any position). 5) The kids never gave up! Syracuse started a 5th string walk-on against the #8 team in the country, a very aggressive LSU team. Over matched in size and speed, our Orange never gave in. That plays well with future growth of these individuals and the team. Never did the RBs stop pounding, the receivers run decent routes, the O-Line give way to LSU's D. Never did the D make it easy (Please, don't take anything away from LSU's O-Line, the deserve a lot of credit for LSU's win). 6) Recruiting just became that much easier. Coaches can walk into recruits homes and say, "we play the best but we need a few more key players to get us over the top. You can start as soon as you earn the spot." Playing time goes to those that earn it. This staff shows they want to win and that inspires kids. This staff is loyal to the kids giving them every opportunity to shine. Kids that will not be starting for a top 25 program may want playing time elsewhere and visibility, Come on down!
