Sounds like Doyle is pretty busy today passing out congratulations.Doyle you are in the minority here among the talking heads..
He (Gottlieb) basically said 'we agree to disagree' he's taking JB on his word that he had no knowledge prior and he was defending his coach.. He thinks JB will finish the year but retire soon and his rep will be a bit 'tarnished' and should be able to select his successor.. that last view was odd.. does he have something against hop?
Funny thing is.. if he survives he may delay his retirement to 'de-tarnish' is rep

Agree...the crappy thing is that the Fines caused all this, not JB. But in the end if JB retires soon of his own accord because that was the plan all along, some jackhole will claim he retired because of this and not because he was ready to.If JB does not get pushed out, which he shouldn't, I think he coaches another two years. He'll get to 900 and hang em up. He has handled adversity before, not of this scale, mind you, but he's a pretty strong guy. If he remains coach, he'll leave when he's ready. I don't see him leaving after the season just because of the media.
Katz and Gottlieb had a discussion about all of this on their ESPNU College Basketball Podcast ... here's what was said (roughly)
Gottlieb says take him at his word that he knew nothing. He made these statements, but I think he keeps his job. I think where this hurts Syracuse is the future, specifically Mike Hopkins' future. This doesn't take away from his success on the floor, his success of his work with coaches v cancer. But it does hurt his power within the university when he walks away. Previously, Boeheim was strong enough to hand pick Hopkins as his successor. I'm guessing here that when Boeheim retires, whether it be this year or 5 years from now, I do think that this speeds up that process unfortunately. Even if he did not know anything, I think this hurts his ability to choose who will be the next Head Coach at Syracuse. Which totally changes the future of this program and maybe Hopkins doesn't get the job.
Katz went on to agree. There is a new administration which can always be a factor with future hires. Does not know if Hopkins has a written contract signed, or if it's just a verbal agreement. But he does think that Hop could be in jeopardy.
