Watched the game myself, and I agree with everything the OP stated.  Grant was better than I expected.  He's got a decent handle, and is quick off the dribble.  He gets up and down the court pretty well, and makes good decisions with the ball.  I don't think I saw him make one boneheaded play all game.  His defense was solid, but not spectacular.  Like the OP said, he knows how to play sound, disciplined defense.  He knows when to attack, and when to stand straight up and put his hands in the air.  One thing I would have liked to see from him is some shots from the perimeter.  He seemed really hesitant to take outside shots, and I don't think he had a 3 point attempt all game. 
 
All things considered...I don't think he will be an immediate impact player in his freshman year.  I do suspect, however, that he will develop into a solid starter at the 3 for Syracuse.
