on the option run by Charley Loeb pitching it to Dixon? on the PAT. Was totally surprised by it, but shouldn't be as the team has pulled out some gadget plays in the last couple of games. It would have been awesome if Broyd connected on that jet sweep? handle off pass play!

I'm sure Norton will re-tell that story many times. But already being forced to use our #2 kicker, I have to wonder about risking an injury to him running the ball.

I was pleasantly surprised. I was screaming at my television when they lined up for the extra point. One must go for two with so little time remaining. No team is going to score three times at that point, so there is no difference between a 12 and 13 point lead. There is nothing to lose. If one converts, two touchdowns still gets one to overtime.

Exactly. It was actually a game management blunder to not simply go for a 2pt conversion there. Shafer actually mentioned in his presser that if the look wasn't there, they were going to check out of it and just kick it, which would have made me REALLY angry. As you said, the difference between 12 and 13 pt lead w/ 3 min left is nothing. Difference better 13 and 14 is potentially huge. I have NO idea how NC state was fooled on that. They had to know we were going for 2 there. Poor job by both coaching staffs there but at least we did a great job of converting the fake.

I knew they weren't kicking that ball. Just would have made no sense. Can't believe NC State didn't snuff that out. Not that it mattered much ultimately, but put that one on the Doeren staff "what exactly are we doing" list.

Still, it was nice to see it so well executed.

I just find it weird that we do all our trick plays when the game is basically over

imo it was a waste to use it in that situation, just as the fake punt was the week before. save them for a surprise when we actually may need it

Unfortunately, I think when we're down in close games, people expect things like fake punts/ fake fgs. You gotta use them when you're up, because then they are unexpected.

I'm very disappointed in broyld's tosses in the games. that was supposed to be huge for us!
