we know that student attendance at football games has been dismal but it was filled last night for the first half anyway. I saw a long line of students outside near gate M, looked like there may have been some type of promotion to get the students in the game. Anyone know what it was?

I believe it was 3000 free tickets to the freshman. I don't blame them for leaving at half to be honest, even I found myself multitasking while watching the stream... And I never do that lol

free beer?

ahh, that explains it. Good promotion, they should do it every game.

How much is a single game student ticket these days? It was $5 back when I was in school when the earth was still flat (87-91).

Even if it's $20 (surprised if it's that high), that's a $60,000 investment per game. 7 games: $420,000 per season to give away / fill 3,000 seats. The key is to keep em coming back.

It's real money, but the investment isn't too much when tuition is $60k per student.

They have in the past tried "free tickets" for students and they still didn't show up. When classes are in full swing that's when you see most of the students avoid the Dome, either they are doing homework or studying or whatever. 12:30 pm starts for them aren't good anyways most Saturday's. Especially when you are just getting home at 4am or 5am from the Friday night parties.

Great atmosphere in the first half with the students - loved the cheering even before the game started. That being said - sorry but I think it's pathetic how every half time whether winning or losing the students leave en masse . Was so excited before and during the 1st half but disappointed to see the exact same behavior at the half. I'm near Gate A and the sidewalk was packed at half time with the students leaving. I asked a few kids politely why they were leaving so soon - many ignored me, 2 said "because it's over" and 5 freshman politely stopped and said they didn't know - they were going where everyone else was. (thus my assumption they were freshman). Has to be deflating for the team to see their fellow classmates leave at halftime especially when attendance was low. Good kids but pack mentality. Hope they continue to show up too.

Student tix for individual games are $2o. The season ticket with the bball tixs are $20. $22o total.

I'll just say what I always do, you can't expect students to be naive. The game *was* over at halftime, and we were playing a dog opponent. They had other fun things to do. Looked like the adults in the Dome left not too much later, and I don't blame them either.

Offering free tickets doesn't really work long term. Eventually the team needs to be decent and the opponent needs to be worth seeing. It's the same criteria non-students use, aside from us silly diehards.

I don't mean this to be patronizing, but it's not the 50s or even the 80s. There are a million entertainment options for students, and very few of them grew up in CNY as SU diehards. Practically every college in the country is dealing with the same dynamic.

Students leaving at halftime because we are blowing out our opponent is a good thing. Hope they leave early every game.

That's what I meant when I said the key is to get them to come back.

Wins. Points. Good opponents. That's the formula.

We're in such a better place than when Cincy, south Florida and Temple littered the conference schedule.

There was a tweet saying they were instructed (not sure by whom) to violently slap the bleachers. Will that be replacing the shaking of the keys?

Please say yes.

If not then I hope all the dorms go to a hotel style card key system (if they haven't already).

Shaking keys = number font on our jerseys = terrible.

I understand. I hope they don't do that vs an ACC opponent, but hey hopefully we can put at least 36 000 in for Wake? Idk. I hope we see a better crowd than last night !!!

Did the Dome DJ get fired?

I don't remember an ad calling for us to "tweet our beats".

The DJ was there in his station.

I believe they had to cancel the "tweet your beats" promotion because too many people were "tweeting their meats".;)

I suppose it's better than "beating your tweets".
