This favors schools that have been good in the last couple of decades, as the AP poll only recognized 25 teams starting in 1989, and for a period of time in the 1960s, only recognized the top 10 teams.

While the AP Poll currently lists the Top 25 teams in the nation, from 1936 to 1961 the wire service only ranked 20 teams. From 1962 to 1967 only 10 teams were recognized. From 1968 to 1988, the AP again resumed its Top 20 before expanding to the current 25 teams in 1989.

We're behind Duke? That's sad.

and Maryland... Some teams ahead of us that I cannot believe are better historically in any way.

Appears heavily weighted for recent success. Not a good method for the claim.

I should have put out a fake list first with SU ranked like 15th (and all the other schools the exact same) to see if people approved of the methodology.

:)

It's a flawed measure of success. Since 1996, Duke has amassed 50 wins. This comes to approximately 2.8 wins per year. In that same timeframe, Syracuse amassed 107 wins. This comes to approximately 5.9 wins per year.

Additionally:

All-time Win % - Duke .490 - SU .580
Post Season - Duke 3-7 - SU 15-9-1
Consensus All-Americans - Duke 4 - SU 42
Heisman Winners - Duke 0 - SU 1
National Championships - Duke 0 - SU 1

If that's the case, where's Buttgers? ;)
Rutgers hasn't been winning as much as they think and they certainly were not winning before 2006. But they might get bonus points if they point out that the ESB was lit in red one night.
