Came across a video of the 2003 Notre Dame game.

I am pretty sure that that was the greatest performance by an SU player that I have ever seen.

The second greatest may be the following year at BC - Diamond Ferri.

Name yours.

Both great.

My first choice is one that I don't remember in much detail. It was my first SU game. Floyd Little scored almost every time he touched the ball or so it seemed. Had to be ~1966. I think he had one, maybe two TD punt returns among other scoring plays.

My 2nd would be the VPI game where Dwight Freeney sacked Michael Vick a ****load of times.

Diamond Ferri - hands down - Reyes against ND was a very good game, but it doesn't hold a candle to Ferri's performance the following year

Diamond Ferri. I will never forget that game as long as I live. Seeing the Superfans crying was priceless.

Scott Schwedes had a 249 yard day against BC in 1985 ... still the receiving record.

The answer is Diamond Ferri.

I mean the guy ran for 141 yards, 2 touchdowns and scored a TD on a 44 yard interception return.

Agree on Ferri. Just the unique -- in the modern era -- of offense and defense. Throw in the fact that he was thrust into that role due to injuries. It was the stuff of legends.

Also agree with OX about Schwedes. That was an incredible performance. He was a hell of a college player.

I wasn't there to see it, but my father told me about Jim Brown's performance against Colgate where he scored 43 points. For the youngsters, this was not the Colgate of today.

"Brown ran for 196 yards, scored 6 touchdowns, and kicked 7 extra points for a total of 43 points... an NCAA record that stood for over 40 years."

And then he competed in a track and field meet later that day. That night he saved 3 orphans from a burning building and cured polio.

Then he denegrated a first-round draft pick, bad-mouthed his former team, beat up his girlfriend, and worst of all, kicked the dog.

Don't forget Joe Morris. Playing at Kansas in 1979, he gained 252 yards, an SU record. Joe also has the single season rushing record, earned the same year.

Listened to the Kansas game on the radio. Announcers were gushing at the performance and Joe's physicality in throwing off linebackers trying to tackle him.

From the SU Athletics site:
Morris is SU's career-rushing leader (4,299), who averaged 5.3 yards per carry. He returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown in the first game played in the Carrier Dome and later that season was named ECAC Offensive Player of the Year (1980). Morris averaged 146.9 all-purpose yards per game over his career. He rushed for six consecutive 100-yard games. He holds the SU record for rushing yards by a sophomore (1,372), and holds the SU mark for most yards gained in a single game (252), most 100 yard games in a career (22), and is second only to Ernie Davis in career rushing touchdowns (25). Morris was named the Independence Bowl Outstanding Offensive Player in 1979, and was the winner of the Mark Hoffman Outstanding Back Award in 1981. Morris was drafted in the second round by the New York Giants in 1982, and played for the Giants from 1982-89 and the Cleveland Browns from 1991-92. He was named to the All-NFC Team in 1986, and was a Pro Bowl selection in 1986 and 1987.

Ferri 4 me 4 sure!

I vote Ferri. Not only for the performance but also due to the context of the game by sending the beagles off and keeping them from winning the BE. Unbelievable game and individual performance.

I was born in 1988 so I cant comment on much before then, even though I have heard stories. Personally the two best individual performances that stick out the most are Diamond Ferri's performance against BC and Dwight Freeney almost single handedly beating Mike Vick and Virgina Tech (cant believe we lost).

Another vote for ferri and I'd put freeney second and Reyes third.

Nothing beats Ferri, but I'll throw Quinton Spotwood's name out there - I think it was the Oklahoma game in 1997 - for a pretty impressive individual day. Two punt returns for a touchdown and some good receiving numbers, too, if memory serves.

Brown's performance was dominant -- but not surprising in any way. Man among boys. He played two-ways and was equally dominant in the defensive secondary; not just in one game, but usually.

Diamond Ferri's great game was amazing: surprising, game-changing, BC was favored, Ferri was filling in for an injured starter. Ran the ball, interception, fumble recovery -- all key plays in the game.

I would put Reyes's effort and Freeney's game as 2A and 2B. But you could cite several games from Freeney where he was the difference-maker.

#3 --Doug Hogue against Rutgers in the Dome. National defensive player of the week! Probably altered the career of a touted Rutgers QB.

Let us not forget Donovan's beatdown of Michigan in the Big House. Completed his first 8 passes in a row, went 21-27 for 293 and the 17 TD run with one shoe. If I recall that was the largest crowd ever at the time to see a college FB game. I even remember Brady getting benched in the 2nd half. Man o man was that a happy day.

And Freeney's first ever college sack -- on Brady.

It's probably not the greatest performance in history, but the Freeney sackfest against Vick is my favorite, maybe because I was there, and certainly because it came against VT and Vick. I think all of his 4 1/2 came in the first half because he ruptured his spleen that game and missed the second half, as well as the rest of the season.

ferri for sure best since i have been watching Su. Art Jones had a monster game against ND the year we beat them

and the DO wrote an article about him having the most friends on facebook.

Its to bad none of those games listed above ie Ferri, Reyes or Mcnabb versus Michigan is on Youtube or even the SUathletics website. I would love to be able to watch any of those games again.
