2.5 times as many people watched the SEC as watched Big East on Average. And Big East numbers are boosted by playing many more weeknight games because their viewership would be even smaller if they went head to head with the SEC, Big Ten and even the ACC on Saturday. Look at who plays on Friday night. DO other conferences play during the week? Sure, but the Big East plays much more often.
 
The key to this is that even in the Northeast, the SEC and Big Ten beat the Big East. Look at the data in the ppt in the link back up this thread.
 
Big East basketball is in 4th place behind the ACC, Big Ten and SEC.
 
I believe there is almost no preference for Big East football on the part of the average Northeastern college football viewer. So I don't think there is much of a market for it. And that market can easily be satisfied by the other conferences and is on Saturday afternoon.
