Okay, guys, you know how much I love "Hamilton." So, I wrote this to the first song in the musical. (Apologies: the second stanza doesn't match the rhythm of the original at all, and I had to truncate the song or else it would be too long, but oh hell. Here it is.) THANK YOU, COACH!

How does a misfit, snakebit, team unawake from their
Slumber, deep under, instead of run they lumber, get plundered
By enemies that always know their number
Wake up - to bring the lightning and the thunder?

A two-bit gang without a name to bang
Instead of going swish, their baskets going clang
Reformed, transformed from a team that's badly choking
To frazzle and bedazzle with ballers hot and smoking!

And every game the fans be shrieking and be yelling
Shouting to the rooftops, "This team, it just ain't gelling!"
The coach experimenting with every kind of line up
Free flowing, and knowing that soon his time would be up.

Then the Hurricanes came, certain devastation reigned
Our coach saw his future drip, dripping down the drain
He never shirked the work, a light exploded in his brain
He found five players he knew could bring the pain!

Well, the word got around, they said, "This team is insane, man,
They were dead men walking, now they're known as Boeheim's Bane, man!"
Play that vaunted defense, don't forget from whence you came, and
The world's gonna know your game. "What's your game, man?"

Boeheim's Big Time Basketball.
He's won a THOUSAND games of basketball!
NC double A, it ain't your call.
Just you wait, just you wait!

Boeheim's Big Time Basketball
The team is waiting in the wings for you
You could never back down
You never learned to take a - - jab!

Oh, Boeheim's Big Time Basketball
When America rags on you
Will they know what you overcame?
Will they know you rewrote the game?
The zone will never be the same, oh

The team is in the locker room
See if you can spot him!
Haranguing and declaiming,
"We shall come up from the bottom!"
This season might destroy his rep
The fans nearly forgot him

(The team): "We fought for him."
(Gerry): "I bled for him."
(Hopkins): "I've trusted him."
(Juli): "I love him."
(NCAA): "We're the fools that tried to stop him!"
(stop him stop him stop him . . .)

There's a THOUSAND games that he's just won
And he's not done!

What's your game, man?

Boeheim's Big Time Basketball!

I'm glad I'm not the only one on this board that is obsessed with Hamilton on this board. I had a very Hamilton Christmas getting a Hamilton Bobblehead, A copy of the show book, The Duel, and to top it off a copy of The Federalist Papers. Now all I have to do is find a way to see the show and I will be complete.

Do you have a lot of money? That will help! Yes, I am in hopeless Hamilton mode. Lin Manuel is a genius.

Just like Jim Boeheim!

That's great. My only critique is you should swap Hopkins/Gmac parts...for obvious reasons.
Interesting! Tell me the reasons. I think I chose "bleeding" for Gerry because of the indelible image of his bloody forehead, clapping his hands during the tournament in 2003. I also think of how he played with a wrecked body his senior year. With Hop, I feel that he has stuck around because Boeheim promised him he would be his successor. Hop is trusting he will keep his word (and there is a certain amount of drama around the timing of Boeheim's departure and will Hopkins ever EVER get to be head coach?).

Unfortunately no, and I live down in Florida so I have to worry about travel expenses too. I have resigned myself to listening to the Album while I wait for the show to go on tour. Have you listened to the Mixtape yet, lots of good content on it that didn't make the final show. My favorite song on it is "An Open Letter". It is absolutely vicious and destroys John Adams. Also I don't know if you have seen Lin freestyle, but he is like no other. He did a few amazing ones on Jimmy Fallon.

Federalists and banksters, not sure I want to connect our beloved Orange with their ilk. Are they going to make sequels called Jefferson and Jackson? ;)

There's a pretty poignant tourney memory where Hopkins opened up his skull and is bleeding all over. I've been looking for a pic but can't find one.

You know, I vaguely remember that! But in the present era, I think his long (suffering?) status as Coach-in-Waiting was more compelling.

That was AMAZING! God bless America. (Sorry, can't help myself.)

And your website looks great!

Thank you very much! I've always loved writing and this is my first real opportunity.
