That's what Kiffin had to do on Saturday.

He inherited a semi-gutted program.

Kinda feel like he got screwed.

His actions back in the day were part of the reason USC ended up with a partly gutted roster.

You are DEFINITELY in the minority here.

Kiffin got everything he deserved. Pompous a** who was hated in Oakland and hated in Tennessee. Now I'm sure he'll be hated at USC too. Once is an accident, twice is a trend. Three times... look in the mirror, Lane.

Kiffin is the prototypical a-hole that people tolerate when he does well, but jettison as soon as he's not doing well. I live in So Cal and come into contact with USC alums regularly and that's the general opinion I've gotten.

Never heard that before.

Oh.

So this was a referendum on his personality?

He got screwed?

He's been employed almost his entire career in jobs he shouldn't have and didn't deserve.

When I hear his name, him getting screwed is pretty close to the last thing that jumps into my head.

You could argue that maybe his wife got screwed.

It's easier to play with 56 players when you're at USC.

Talent's not the problem there. Do you think they have less talent than Washington State and Arizona State?

Kiffin is a clown.

And personality is part of the equation because when you're a royal douche you'll get very little slack when things go south.

never heard anyone defend lane kiffin. this is a first.

seriously, I can't wait what head coaching job he gets next because of daddy's connections. kid couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag.

Haden was given the reason he was looking for to dump him, he didn't want to look like the bad guy or as if he hadn't given Kiffen a chance. This was the perfect opportunity before Kiffen had a chance to turn it around.

And even if he did, WHO CARES? Did Kiffin hack your account?

Yup, he is basically everything that is obnoxiously wrong with the good ol' boy football coaching network.

Guy has a job for life because of his DNA. Must be nice.

I think it definitely had something to do with it. Seems to me that he put off a lot of people. And I'd imagine those with means let Haden know about it when the team wasn't winning like they're used to.

Weird thing is that he had one successful stop on his head coaching tour. Tennessee. They loved him there, until he left after one season. Team showed improvement in that one year, the recruiting instantly picked up, which is a Vol worry. Worst decision he ever made, but if he could do it again, I bet he would.

What happens with him now will be fairly interesting, although I'm not going to go out of my way to pay attention to it.

Mack Brown is on the clock. There's really only one layup left on their schedule, a home game against Kansas. When they get to 4 losses, he could be the next in season casualty. They'll want the time to work with Sumlin's agent, maybe start an interest war with Art Briles' agent.

Put me in the same boat.. I think any coach who takes over a team under scholarship reduction penalties should be given ample time to build a roster after the penalties before being canned. I would be canning my agent for not putting some sort of hefty buyout clause in my contract if I were negotiating a contract with this situation.

On the other hand, he knew what he was signing up for. I never liked Lane, but I too agree with you, seems like a raw deal.

Didnt HCDM play with 55 schollie players in 2009?
Apples and oranges. FHCDM ran alot of the kids out. I agree with his decision to be honest with the kids that weren't D1 talent level. But you cannot compare the two.

When I was in the car business a general manager once told me, "the grass is always greener on the other side but usually it's astro turf".

Always stuck in my head and a lot of truth to that.

This thread is kind of funny since many argued that loss of scholarships wouldn't effect Penn State in our first game.

If she hasn't ill volunteer!
