Don't think so. Being an offensive lineman himself and an NFL O Coordinator it makes sense to leave the D to someone that specializes there.

Something tells me neither is a good solution.

Coaching special teams has nothing to do with the rest of the practice and any other positions. The whole team does ST drills. I don't know what people don't understand about this. He coaches TE's during positionals. ST during the ST period. Pretty simple.

I get that... My main concern is that our HC also delegates and does the big picture things necessary that a rebuilding program needs.

If we were 'rebuilt' and in or borderline top 25 and Marrone wanted to take on a position coach responsibilities or ST's, I'd feel much better about such a move...

I worry he is spreading himself too thin and other things will suffer because of it in the bigger scheme of things.

Hope I am wrong about that.

I know I've spoken a bit about Lerry Fedora at the UNC Coaches Clinic I went to a couple of weeks ago. He made a speech during the clinic about special teams and he really spoke about how important it is for the head coach to be involved in special teams somehow. He coaches the punt return unit at UNC and his assistant are divided up into the other units. He says, when the head coach is involved and fired up about it, the players act accordingly. I am all for DM doing whatever he thinks he needs to to make this team successful.

Agreed, People need to get out more... As if Marrone picking up the te position will make a huge difference either way . Actually works well for Hackett and keeps Marrone close to the o as well...
