Lets just try and stick with facts.

1: He is regarded as a very good D coach. He has had a long track record of success and from what i have read is well respected.

2: He was hired very late and didnt have much time to put together a staff and try to salvage the recruiting season.

3: He pulled out a bowl win with a very strong finish his first year

4: He brought in a very solid recruiting class.

5: This years team played as difficult a schedule as we have faced in years.

6: We have decimated by injuries

7: The team has continued to play hard and has stuck together

8: He has to date kept the recruiting class intact and seems to be in position to close well

9: In spite of our injuries the O has been a disaster.

My thought is simple. I believe that he is a good coach and a good fit for Syracuse. If Lester comes through he will be our coach for a very long time and will in my opinion have us back in the top 25 within three years and in a bowl game each year from here on out.

I hope that Lester is capable and believe that he is. I believe we win 6-7 next year against a very difficult schedule and year after next is our break out year.

2. He brought in the staff he wanted. Got the band back together.

5. Our OOC schedule was rated 61st. Next year will be easier.

He said in an interview that his first choice for OC passed or something to that regard.

61st rating doesnt take into account the order of teams played or 9 straight weeks.

Cubit! We could have had Illinois' offense from this year.

Ha ha, most of those are opinions and value-judgements, not facts. Even if an opinion is widely held, it is still not a fact.

Its not?! Guess we have to shut down the board.;)

My widely-held opinion and value-judgement is the fact that that was a great post! Nearly spit my coffee out!:p

why do you believe that lester is capable? i'm not saying i know he isn't. i just like hearing why people believe it

I'm hoping he's capable; not sold after the slopfest of the last month.

But I want him to succeed because he's a smart guy. The polar opposite of your football meathead. So it'd help your cause if Lester ends up creating a good offense.

He'll have the offseason to do the typical tour circuit to hone his craft. Let's see where he goes. Any NFL team (other than the Eagles) probably = bad sign. Spending a week with Bill Cubit = bad sign. I really hope he focuses on currently successful college offenses.

I'm in the same camp. I know he's been in a tough spot with taking over mid-season and dealing with injury and 3 new QB's, but two weeks of prep and 7 points against Pitt didn't really inspire a lot of faith.

we probably should have scored 7 more but that means nothing

A "David vs. Goliath" story is great when David wins... David is stuggling at the moment, we'll see how the story ends.

5. Our OOC schedule was rated 61st. Next year will be easier.
SU's current overall schedule is ranked #34. Of the private schools, only Notre Dame (#3), USC (#9) and Stanford (#16) have tougher schedules. Miami is right there at #35, with Duke way down at #77.

We can't control the conference schedule though.

When you say " i'm not saying I know he isn't (capable)" why is that?

I'm willing to guess that the answer to your question for most people isn't so much about believing that Lester is capable. No one can prove that he is capable. But he might be, and HCSS believes he is. And just because you believe every coach is stupid doesn't make it impossible or even improbable that Lester is capable at SU.

He gets another year regardless of the belly aching going on around here. If he doesn't deliver, he's gone, and if he does, we're back in business. It's as simple as that.

i didn't say it was impossible.

i think their odds of finding someone capable would improve if they hired someone else, that's all. i don't think many other teams would hire him as their offensive coordinator. On the other hand, I bet lots of teams would be happy to have Bullough. If we're going to go with a guy with very little D1 experience, I would prefer to get someone who learned under someone better than Cubit who we know is not good.

I just don't see much evidence that Lester is good. We just have to trust Shafer but how can you not be skeptical of his judgment hiring offensive coaches?

We at least had a Texas A&M fan come here to ask about Bullough.

Why is everyone Wolowitz'ing this thing to death when it seems really simple to me. Mitch Kimble was playing. 'Nuff said.

Why was Kimble playing? I'm assuming Wilson couldn't go, Long is still slightly banged up or maybe isn't progressing with the playbook, who knows. But the fact that Mitch Kimble has seen significant time this year as the 4th string QB tells me everything I need to know about why this team has 3 wins and lost all games but 1 since Hunt went down. It's not like we had Senior backups, Long can't even buy a pack of cigarettes yet and people expected him to lead us to greatness in the ACC with 2 down receivers and a patchwork OL. This season sucked, we all know it, but if you guys take the emotion out of it, it's pretty clear why and you'd be a fool to put this on the staff.

"Wolowitz'ing" interesting verb.
He's been to space, so SU2NASA approves, and he occasionally wears Orange, so you should approve.
Crusty, just be glad that you're not married to Mrs. Wolowitz. I hope SU2NASA has done better than Howard as well.
