He says this is a different Irish team and they will beat SU

I hope Dyshawn Davis lays down the hammer.

So often overrated in the last decade, I never know which ND team will come to play.

Didn't the team we beat have Golden Tate?

The writer still predicts three losses (how he missed the loss to Syracuse one will never know) and that will keep ND out of the playoffs. Wll we hear cries from the masses for an expanded playoff system?

The only way I'd hate ND more is if they were PSU.

Or Cam Dantley, or Donte Davis, who caught the winning TD.

The real deal was Art Jones that day.

I was being tongue in cheek about Sheeran but you are correct, the only hero you missed was Bailey who had a huge day out of the backfield.

Notre Dame started that year 4-1 and ended 7-6 under the cocky Charlie Weiss. We made history as being the first 8 loss team to ever beat the Fighting Irish.

That 2008 squad had four players go in the draft, TE John Carlson 2nd round, DE Trevor Laws 2nd, S Tom Zibikowski 3rd and C John Sullivan 6th.

Three others signed as free agents LB Joe Brockington, LS J.J. Jansen and RB Travis Thomas.

Yes Golden Tate was on that squad as well as over-hyped QB Jimmy Clausen. Tate went in the 2nd round of the 2010 NFL draft and out of high school was drafted by MLB's Arizona Diamondbacks in the 42nd round .

They are a different team. They have a coach that is 37-15 overall (four years) at ND, 21-5 in the past two years.

Kelly has been a college head coach for over twenty years and has won big everywhere he has been.

Charlie Weis never was a head coach (except one year at a high school) before taking over the ND job. He was 35-27 at ND after five years.

OJT as the coach at ND is a recipe for disaster. See Gerry Faust and Bob Davie.

Ara Parseghian said that he needed all of his prior college head coaching experience to handle the pressure of being the head football coach at ND.

Weis recruited mostly offensive skill players and neglected defense. He coddled offensive players like Golden Tate and Jimmy Clausen. He created a division in the locker room between those offensive skill players and everyone else, especially the defensive players.

Weis also didn't know how to coach defense or motivate players. His NFL background left him with the idea that players are self motivated and he just needed to teach them his "schematic advantage".

Brian Kelly has out recruited Weis, especially on defense. He is much better at coaching the entire team and motivating the players.

It is a different ND team, just like I am sure it is a different Syracuse team that the Irish will face in 2014.

I think we can all agree that ND today is way better than the team that surprised Weiss and co. I just thought it was funny/lazy that the blogger didn't recognize that we've been much better (to a lesser extent) since that too.

Oh, I know. Couldn't resist. Memories of a great day, despite the fact that two storied programs were languishing under historically bad coaching regimes.

The big issue will be containing golson. He breaks you down with his feet and then last second throws 40 yards downfield to a 6-7 tight end in single coverage against a 5-10 dback because a safety cheated...

Yeah it was a sad day for America that's for sure!

Yes ND is a different team than they were back in '08...

But SU is also several times the team they were then too.

I see no reason other than history that ND should be handily favored over Syracuse. Frankly this will be the easiest "big program building win" we could ask for. I'll be extremely disappointed if our boys don't come out gunning.

Not trying to be rude but why are you here ? Isn't there a good Notre Dame board somewhere ? Drop by the week of the game like other opponent fans do.

Sure thing. I didn't know this board was limited to Syracuse fans only. Take care.

Go away. I've had the great fortune of dealing with Notre Dame fans with Michigan and I've never seen a more delusional fanbase with such an overinflated sense of self worth.

The biggest positive out of them being little bitches and bailing on the UofM series is that I won't have to deal with those gingers ruining a good tailgate.

The problem SU has is that no one will care unless we actually put together a season that matters. The problem with winning 7 or 8 games and winning a pinstripe bowl or something like that is that no one cares. SU has indeed been markedly better since GRob's departure, but they need a big season to actually get some traction nationally.

Yet you still lost to Pitt last year ... and should have lost to them the year before ... let me chuckle to myself while you wax ecstatic over your perceived superiority. Other then a win over an overrated ASU and a win against MSU ... (I'm still shaking my head over that one) ND doesn't have much to brag about ... actually I find it kind of sad actually.
