Meeting a buddy of mine in Clemson for the game. I'm sure you can't get direct flights there from Syracuse, so what's the best airport to take an indirect too. Also, I've been told the nearest airport is Columbia, SC--a three hour drive. Besides renting a car, what's the best way to get to campus from there?

Thanks guys.

It's about a two hour drive either from Atlanta (traffic permitting) or Columbia, according to Google maps. There is also Greenville-Spartanburg airport much closer, but I don't know how expensive it is to fly there, or even what airlines do.

You will probably have to fly into Atlanta, then fly to Greenville, SC. The Atl-Greenville flight is really short. The Greenville to Clemson drive is about 45 minutes to an hour under normal traffic circumstances.

I would rent a car, but I'm not sure about the age allowed for rent-a-cars in SC. I'm 19.
Quick search yields these companies that rent out of Greenville Airport:

Budget Rent-a-car (864) 879-2134
Avis Car Rental (864) 877-6456
Alamo Rental (888) 826-6893
Hertz (864) 655-5300

There are others as well.

I would just call and ask. Hope that helps!

I'm thinking about driving up from Atlanta for the game. I've heard Clemson fans are really nice but if we are as good as we think we might be and Clemson takes a step back, i'm wondering how nice their fans really are...

I would not be concerned. Hoping to make it myself, should be a great time.

Greenville has a good amount of destinations. Closest for you guys will be Newark and Laguardia. Also don't fly to Atlanta as the airport is on the south side of the city and you will be in Atlanta traffic for hours if you're flying down on Friday. Charlotte is about the same distance and you won't have to fight near as much traffic. Charlotte also has flights to Syracuse. HTH

I'm actually kind of hoping for some rowdiness to be honest, but all in all, I haven't heard a bad thing about that fanbase. Definitely going to make getting up there a priority.

Dude, you don't have to wear a helmet when you ride a motorcycle in SC so don't worry about renting a car. No easy way to get to Clemson other than driving and its an interesting drive at that.

I'm afraid you are going to have a problem renting a car. It has nothing to do with state but rather the rental car agencies. Some will rent to a 21 year old... most want you to be 25.

Southwest has a flight from Rochester, NY to Greenville, SC and it is somewhat reasonable if you are willing to pay up front for a non-refundable ticket. The airport is 45 minutes from CU. Looking forward to hosting you folks!

They'll be friendly. They don't take us serious down here. Hence, why we are their Homecoming "Cupcake." I had to wear a purple Paw Power shirt to softball after the defeat last season. I am looking forward to us returning the favor, and would assume most of their fan base would be speechless. Either way, they only care about beating one team, which they have not done for 5 straight seasons!

Don't know if you can still do it, but a friend of mine and I are flying into Savannah via Atlanta for the game. Now Savannah is considerably further from Clemson than Atlanta is, but the airfare to fly into Savannah is considerably less than flying into Atlanta directly. So we are going to get off our flight in Atlanta and head to Clemson from there. And get on our flight from Atlanta to Syracuse (checking in electronically), shunning the flights to Savannah both ways.

We will be using a rental car to drive back and forth...

Direct flights to Charlotte. It's the best option.

Can you do that and just not use part of your ticket. Especially on the 1st leg of the flight back. It makes sense, just didn't know if it was "legal".

You can also fly into Asheville NC; I see it's pretty comparable. We're staying around there although it's peak season so the prices are jacked up a bit.

I thought it was verboten. You can skip the 2nd leg but if you miss the first leg your entire ticket is cancelled. I would double check that.

I was about to say the same thing that Javadoc just did. If you're not on that flight from Savannah you will likely not have a seat on the flight from Atlanta. You could call the day of with some sob story about how you ended up being closer to Atlanta than Savannah, but you may be SOL.

just make sure they use the proper relative bearing grease on the U-Joints as I would hate to see you broken down and lost on the side of a road somewhere in N.C.

Pat Kelly you should take up tomcat's offer and ride over with them

Also, if you jump off at ATL I think they'll cancel your return.

Only thing is, I think to Charlotte is a cheaper flight.

Most any of the major rental cars will rent to you, but since you are under 25, you will have a fairly pricey fee involved to do it.

You might want to check out bus services.
