When Pearl punched Ewing in that game and put him on his knees, it was in retaliation for a vicious elbow Ewing had thrown at Pearl, that Pearl ducked. Howard Triche said that Ewing threw the elbow with such force that if it had landed it would have knocked Pearl’s head off.

This wasn’t anything unusual for Georgetown who hoped to win games through physical intimidation. Commentators talked about the physical nature (euphemism for fights) in the Big East without ever pointing out in every game there was a dust-off in that one of the teams was Georgetown. Guess why they didn’t dare point that out.

For those who weren’t around, listen to JB’s comment that “Michael Graham just punched my player in front of 19,000 people and the refs called a two shot foul”. Maybe that will give you an idea of what went on.

The Knick fans on here that remember Ewing as a heroic figure must have either not been around in the mid-1980’s or have Knick induced amnesia.

He was hired by GU after they determined that no experienced head coach would take the job with JT Jr there with an office in the same building with a direct line to the AD and the GU president while smoldering with resentment over his son’s dismissal.
