We've been here before (Kansas state, west Virginia). I'm not trying to take away anything from the performance of our guys yesterday because they responded like they needed to, but I think the most important game of our schedule will be this south florida game. It would be very disheartening to come out next week and regress to our ill-timed turnovers and redzone deficiencies. Let's keep this momentum going. The players got a taste of winning easily, I'm sure their Saturday (usually sunday) morning was better than it has been in recent memory.

Consistency...when we start playing consistently good football, game to game, then the famous corner will be turned.

Bingo. Our only consistency is how inconsistent we are at times.

the corner was turned when we actually played good football. we had years of almost none.

I have a tendency to agree. Seems like some kind of disconnect or amnesia on the part of some, but to not see a noticeable improvement in the way this team plays since Marrone took over makes me wonder if people remember those choo choo years?

We're consistently more competitive than those teams, but we still haven't played consistently good football. We'll get there.

Yesterday we came out and handled an opponent as we should. It was a great win and showed what we are capable of when we play smart.

That being said, UConn is probably the weakest team we've played so far this season... and yes I'm including Stony Brook. Be beat UConn like we should've beat UConn and it has to be a great confidence booster to our players.

Next week will tell us alot about this team and what we can expect for the rest of the season.

I'm not over the moon exstatic nor taking anything away from last nights win. I'm very content with the win as it's what I expect Syracuse to do against lessor talented teams. If a few weeks from now we look back and this was the starting point of an actual winning streak then i will be thrilled by this games result.

In order to do a 180, you have to turn 2 corners. The first corner is to be competitive each week and the second is to win consistently. We have turned the first corner. We will see how close we are to the next corner over the next few weeks.

This fan base is a skeptical bunch.

The K-State win couldn't prove much. It was the finale for the three key players who made the 2010 season and the game hero (Sales) was about to take an unscheduled red shirt year.

West Virginia proved a one-time spike and I attribute a lot of that to real favorable match-ups against a team that took us lightly. Then, we had a series of injuries that exposed a lack of depth, our smallish defense got pushed around.

Granted, UConn is struggling on offense. Granted, those big plays from Lemon looked like one-time events. And, granted, our secondary looked vulnerable. But the OL and DL sure looked genuine; the LBs are playing better; Smith has run hard in each of the recent games; and the team showed some depth in key spots (Broyld, Desir, Eskridge). The kicking game was solid. The team is more healthy at mid-season than we have seen in recent years. It looks like a team that can compete through November.

For obvious reasons. I am just saying what everyone here is thinking.

Look the fact of the matter is the UConn team we faced is a team we have struggled against the last few seasons ... in Marrone's tenure we have had a very hard time with managing teams with power run games ... last year UConn as well as a few others killed us with it ... that game last night is one that is very close if we didn't improve drastically in our front 7 on D and our scheme ... that is a game we either win at the last minute or lose at the last minute if things hadn't improved ... don't care how bad UConn is ... in the past they were a bad matchup for the Cuse. They have been in every game this season and are now starting to fix the things that have killed them 6 games in ... give them time ... this program is headed in the right direction. I think Marrone is also learning a lot as he goes and when he does figure it all out this team will be nasty ... you can already see subtle changes in philosophy and his attitude and I see a continued trend of trying things out to see what works and what yields results.

The offense is better when we can run the ball effectively, 50-35 would be a nice ratio, with between 225-250 on the ground, and 275-300 thru the air. That way people have to respect all aspects of the offense and have to gameplan for everything.

The WVU game seemed almost transcendent. We were playing way over our heads and things just worked out incredibly well. I didn't have that feeling in the UConn game. At no point did it seem like we were doing anything absolutely remarkable or playing above our talent level like a year ago, we were just executing and beating up an inferior opponent. That's why I'm a bit optimistic, but only time will tell.

This ^^^^

Also lets face it our style of play is a bad match up for WVU ... That 3-3-5 gets murdered by TEs ... well apparently its getting murdered by everyone. I think since Shafer has been on board we've always had the ability to setup a good defensive game plan ... the issue was whether or not we could score and whether or not our STs and O would put the D at a tremendous disadvantage with field position via turnovers or poor kick coverage.

So what you are saying is that we've done a 90? :) There is much truth in what you are saying ... I have yet to watch a game this season and feel like we couldn't have won any of them sans USC and even then we had a shot.

Not everyone. Sure, fan expectations hit a low because of the long streak of Ls, the awful past decade, and fans are staying away in droves. Too bad.
This SU team is different.
Jerome Smith, Ritchy Desir, the punter and KO specialist, Hickey at RT, Bromley, Diatabe and colleagues at LB, the rotation of full grown players at DT, better schemes on offense.
The team had plenty of issues (turnovers, soft coverage), and lacks standouts, but this team is healthy, and getting better.
