I think most on this board like Shafer and would prefer that he have success at SU.  There doesn't seem to be a big faction of people who are out for blood and want the guy gone yesterday.  But if, unfortunately, this season spirals into the abyss... or perhaps he gets us to 4-5 wins and coaches next year, but that becomes another 4-5 win season.. and Coyle decides a change needs to be made... I don't think people need to be so afraid.

I'm looking at the top 25 right now and I see Utah, Baylor, TCU, Memphis, Toledo, Houston, Temple, Duke and Pitt.  Now some of those schools are in better recruiting areas than SU, but none of them are factories and all of them have some significant program limitation or challenge.  What it tells me is that with the right financial commitment and the right coaching staff it's entirely possible to build a good program.

Sports is judged in a pretty binary way.  There are always mitigating factors but ultimately you gotta win.  I hope Shafer is the guy that can win.  But if he doesn't, this year or next, then we move on and hope to find the guy that can make us a Utah, or Memphis, or Toledo, or Temple, or Pitt.

I don't think that's unreasonable.
