The Big East should immediately begin to negotiate a merger with the ACC, & set up a branding that gives the Big East a remaining footprint on the college landscape.

First, you get rid of the basketball only schools & keep old rivalries alive by scheduling them as one non-conf. game per year.

Second, you set up a BIG EAST Division who will play the Coastal Division in the Football Championship. It might be necessary to take a few of the ACC teams into the B.E. Division for balance(Maryland,BC).

About 20 years ago, I remember a newspaper article that mentioned this type of superconference scenario with these two conferences. It appears this is where we are headed...

The ACC would absolutely LOVE to have all the major Big East Football teams come in, & one way to make it happen is to immediately steal away two of their premier programs, forcing The Big East leadership to take action & get to the negotiating table.

The Big East really has no other viable option that will save them at this point, & you know the old expression...

IF YOU CAN'T BEAT 'EM, JOIN 'EM !!!

Are you delusional? If the ACC wanted to merge with the BE, they'd be talking to the conference leadership and not accepting individual applications from BE programs. An ACC/BE merger has no basis in reality. What does the BE have to add, other than WVU and maybe UCONN, that the ACC doesn't currently have? The ACC already has FL covered so no need for USF, Cincy and Louisville are outside it's geographic footprint, Rutgers is Rutgers, and then most of the BB onlies are has beens with the exception of Villanova and maybe a resurgent St. Johns. Plus, all signs point to ND moving it's athletic arrangement to the ACC along with the SU and Pitt defection.

The ACC has no need to merge with the BE. The BE's best bet to remain a FB conference and not morph into just a BB conference is an east/west arrangement with the big 12's leftovers, some MWC teams, and then a few eastern upstarts.

Basketball only schools! No one wants them end of story!

The BE now has no negotiating position. It had to be done weeks ago.

Maybe the Big East will go back to being a basketball only conference if the four 16 team conferecne thing comes through. I'll bet the basketball onlies would prefer that after getting "wagged" by football all these years.

Maybe so, but they will lose a ton of money for upgrading their facilities, & it's all over for those schools as a national contender for a championship...

Sorry, Man. The BE, as we know it, is dead. As someone else said in this thread, the ACC could have talked merger a long time ago. Instead, they talked to individual schools. Or rather, individual schools talked to them. There will be no merger. That ship has sailed. The conference championship is now in Greensboro. We are gone. At least as long as 2003 does not happen all over again.
