Could someone take a moment to give this history student a history lesson? I was reading an AP article this morning and came across this: "it is perhaps the strangest turn of a topsy-turvy season. The Orange (23-13) dropped their first four ACC games. Boeheim was suspended for nine games as part of an NCAA investigation that found a history of improper benefits and academic misconduct stretching back years."

Okay, so I know the NCAA investigation stretched back years, but I thought the "improper benefits" were pretty much small potatoes and involved the football team more than the basketball team. Also, wasn't the "academic misconduct" pretty much limited to the big Brazilian? Seems to me that what really is pissing off some of the talking heads is that they believe, based on bias as much as conflicting evidence, that Bernie Fine got away with decades of pedophilia.

Anyway, screw the haters. Go Orange!!

Oh, yeah. I forgot about the weed. Some of our guys liked weed I guess. In violation of NCAA poli....oh, wait, there is no NCAA policy on weed. Just a school policy. That apparently we violated. Naughty, naughty.

I'll leave the specifics to the experts, but what I do know, is that the national media is selling that we are the most evil bunch of cheaters who walked the earth. Facts be damned. It's a witch hunt. We are getting far more of it than UNC is too. A team who has been under investigation all season.

The report mentioned four basketball players caught up in the academic misconduct, but only Fab's name has been discussed in the press.

It's small payments to players, football, and basketball, from the YMCA, drug violations going back 10-15 years (pot) and then the academic stuff involving a handful of players. It's really not bad but you can see how payments , drugs, and academic improprieties can be spun into some SCORCHING H0T Takes.

As I understand it, the payments from the YMCA were a legal part of an internship the players participated in as part of a class and that the violation was that the grad student who managed it didn't have up-to-speed time card records, etc. But I don't really know. It frankly doesn't matter. The entire world thinks we are Al Capone, John Gotti, Jeffery Dahmer, and Donald Trump rolled into one big nasty evil ball. It will take decades to be thought of as a clean program at this point.

I don't know the specifics. I do know they weren't that bad... But the optics suck.
