1 W and 12 Ls in his last 13 games. How can you go from being competitive at ECU to not being able to win with all those HS kids in your back yard?

Low football acumen.

Especially considering the success they were having just prior to him arriving. It's not as if he stepped into a rebuilding job.

I have always felt that every coach possesses a unique skill set and persona that may or may not translate to a given team's situation. Former SU HC candidates Turner Gill and Randy Edsall are in the same boat as Holtz. You could also consider highly successful college coaches who have failed miserably in the NFL (where the coaching circumstances are significantly different). There are some guys who I think would succeed anywhere, but for the most part, success at one program doesn't always guarantee success at another school.

there is something just wrong at USF that's left over from the leavitt years. they don't have it upstairs, they just find ways to lose. to think we had problems with yards not lining up with wins, how the hell did they end up 5-7 last year. they are just terrible in close games

1-5 last year in games decided by td
1-3 this year

2-8 in games decided by a TD or less tell me the team is lacking in conditioning. They don't have that extra push at the end when the game is on the line, they are already spent. That's on Holtz. Our guys continue to fight, scratch, claw, anything necessary to keep pushing until the final whistle. Unfortunately for Holtz, it's more now than just the conditioning. USF is displaying that whole 'here we go again' attitude that infected Grob's teams in the 2nd half of ballgames, heck maybe it was part conditioning with Grob too. Did you see where the USF guys starting heading to the tunnel after we scored, even with 3 seconds left in the game? I don't see this as a snowball about to catch fire, but rather more like them burning out until they are frozen.
