Disclaimer: I am not an SU alumn. I grew up just outside Syracuse and have always loved and followed the Orangemen/Orange. Blame my dad for getting me started but blame me for the last few decades as I could have changed allegiances. To the OP: I believe the ACC and each school intends to play. SU has been aggressive and disciplined in their Covid plan. I also have seen solid leadership from the Chancellor and the AD. Neither seems willing to sacrifice the school and it's good name for a short term risk. Both seem very much like they view every move in light of the good name of Syracuse University. That said, the move by the B1G, PAC and everyone else was premature (except a few cases where institutional controls we're obviously bad, yes, Rutgers, that includes you!). By cancelling the season, they cancel practice. The ACC, SEC, and Big 12 are still practicing. Meanwhile, if Covid cannot be contained, the season can still be cancelled by the ACC, SEC, and Big12. You may argue that the other conferences will have practice before the spring season. That assumes there will be a spring season. Not to mention the season will be shortened, as will the preseason, likely. Further, if the ACC, SEC, and Big 12, (along with the few remaining G5 conferences) the spring season football will look ridiculous. The conferences early exit will be viewed as foolish. If I may, when I was active duty, we were always ready. Training, exercises, logistics, everything was ready to go at a moment's notice. We often had word we were going and we're merely waiting on orders. Most often, orders never came. By being ready, we were able to go if necessary. If we didn't go, we were that much more prepared for the next mission. How much less willing be for the ACC, SEC, and Big12? They are preparing and will be ready to go. If not, they stand down and are that much more prepared for the next season, be it in January or September.
