If Mike didn't bolt, then it would've been JB being the one raising holy hell, etc. His contract was up (not to mention for years JB has stated he's on a year to year contract, etc.) and he wouldn't have had any/much legal ground to pursue breach of contract, or whatever cause of action he chose to allege in his frivolous type suit/complaint pleadings, etc.

However, it would've though clearly been a public relations nightmare, etc. for the school, as undoubtedly, JB would've made things ugly, embarrassing, etc. for all to witness.

In the end, Mike taking the high road, leaving, etc. did the school a monumental favor in avoiding the public relations disaster that awaited had he not left, saving the university from a complete fiasco.
