After doing a little autopsy of the offense, I certainly feel better about their performance than anything we saw the weekend before. Both Penn and Princeton had lots of possessions peter out late in the shot clock. This game unfortunately also featured a handful of unforced turnovers and inexplicable offsides, but in general there were a lot more quality looks at cage and better passing/spacing. In the first half we had a few nice passing plays punishing the early slides from Hop, which were still present, despite being a little less frequent than the last two seasons. Gelinas bailed them out a few times. Anderson did not have a good game, even with a short stick matchup for most of it, but I do not put that entirely on him. If Anderson gets a short stick we should treat it the same way we would Spallina or Leo. Everyone should clear out a mile away from him to really put teams in a bad spot when they try to slide. To often he would start a dodge against the short stick and we would have 2 or 3 other guys still standing way too close to him, which lead to there not being an ideal pass to make after the slide. His passing/decision making off the dodge is still a weak point in his game right now, and why I still want Leo on the left wing, but we did not do enough to put him in good spots yesterday. One choice that I think is getting really hard to argue against is Thomson at attack. He just makes too much happen to be off the attack line. Along with his finishing ability, he knows exactly where to be offball, which is another important skill some on our team seem to struggle with. That pass to Dwan in transition was maybe the best play of our season. Insane level of skill/awareness to handle that rocket pass from Vinnie B and instantly flip it to Dwan. Type of play that should be SC Top 10 but never is.
