During the course of the football season I read a lot of stories and game summaries on this Nathan Ricketts of Holland HS in Holland, Michigan. I stopped posting on him as I did not see any continued interest from Syracuse. Then boom, all of sudden he's a Parade All American, an honor which caught everyone off guard including Nathan himself and his former coach who doesn't remember ever sending anything in on him.

I continued to read great things about the kid and was scratching my head as to why he wasn't getting much interest from anyone.

From the story:

"Ricketts still hasn’t made a decision about his football playing future, but has received interest from Grand Valley, Central Michigan and Illinois, and has already received an invitation to be a preferred walk-on at Michigan State.

”I hope this will help that,” Ricketts said.

McManus said that any team would be happy to get a player that has the work ethic and talent that Ricketts has."

Contrary to the article, after checking the sites it shows him having offers from Central Michigan, Toledo, Western Michigan and interest from Illinios, Ball St, Cincy, N Ill, Clemson, E Mich, Iowa, Michigan, MSU, Minny, Miss St, Nebraska, Northwestern, OSU, Penn St, Tennessee and what do you know, Syracuse.

His measurables show 6-3 (6-2 at another site), 215, 4.7 40, 4.4 shuttle, 32 " vertical.

If the article is right he had no offers which contradicts the sites.

Holland football player surprised by national magazine's All ...

he sounds like a good walkon. Maybe him and Crossan can room together. ;)

On a side note it'll be interesting to see what happens with Crossan. I'm sure wherever he goes, the first time he rushes for 60 yards there'll be threads here about how we missed and should have brought him in.

and if the backs they did sign don't pan out and Crossan does for someone, then they'll be right

same goes for Canzeri now at Iowa - we know how Smallwood from the same class panned out - if Canzeri goes on to a successful career for the Hawkeyes then you have to say it's a miss by the staff

FWIW I still think Smallwood was the right call over Canzeri based on potential. Can't fault the coaches for Smallwood's shortcomings off the field. Smallwood was a burner, Canzeri was a grinder.

I think Ricketts would be a nice project if we have the scholarship avail. I hate to make the white guy to white guy comparison but he looks similar to Provo coming out of HS.

Well Greg Garmon will no doubt have a say in how much pt canzeri gets.

Iowa has lost 5 running backs since 2010. That's not even including Melvin Gordon who had committed to Iowa and was visiting the locker after the Hawkeye loss to OSU where a fist fight broke out between coaches and players.

This article says the defections could open up the door for Canzeri or a true freshman to start.

I pulled this in from the daily articles

Iowa running back Marcus Coker leaves program

talk about falling into a good situation. At one point in time Canzeri wasn't even sure he would be going the D1 route on a full ride.

He's a TE...we have two coming in with one of them supposedly having a good chance to see the field this year. TE is the least of our concerns.

Right but injuries happen, defections happen, and some players dont pan out. We need at least 2 solid TE's, preferably 3 or 4. I like the 2 guys we have coming in but they're unknowns just like Addazio is due to injury and lack of experience as a receiver at TE.

End game, if the coaches like him, I like him which is pretty much my MO on most commits.

I trust the staff too, but if I was on the coaching staff, going after this kid would depend on what I thought our chances were of getting a quick commit from the younger Provo.
