Possible separated shoulder? Only saw the fall but not his reaction to being treated on the sideline... Anyone notice it at the game?

BTW how is Austin Wilson doing? Hope he is feeling better... He got smoked...

my guess is separated shoulder as well. miller guess is high ankle sprain.

avant for lewis is a good swap though. (and no this isn't a lewis dig though I'd still make Lewis a safety.)

I like Lewis as a receiver but him as a safety is intriguing.

Man, I don't know. Kid has looked very, very solid at WR. I don't see any good reason to lose his contributions there to shift him over to the secondary. Lewis might not be the fastest, but he seems to be the best at getting open and finding seams in the defense.

Avant has one catch in his career. Lewis has had a pretty good season - and is a real surprise. Not a good swap (not a avant dig).

I knew I'd have to preface with (not a dig at lewis) to give a heads up to his defenders.

Yes, Avant has ONE catch in the only game he's ever played.

Lewis has had a good season, he's a solid role playing WR. Not taking anything away from him, BUT, I'm excited to see Avant. The kid who was raved about all preseason camp who's now healthy. Hopefully he won't have a TD pass clang off his chest.

I know I'm nit-picking, but Avant has 2 catches for the season, both on Saturday.

I was just going to say, "He's got some Jeff Lowe to him" and not just because he's white, and then I looked up Jeff Lowe's stats...did he really only have 31 career catches? Why do I remember him standing out more than that?

I like the Lowe comparison--and not because they're both white, but because Lowe was a productive player who was also an effective possession receiver. Lowe was also a starter--so a big contributor, even if it wasn't all about big numbers [we also throw a lot more now than we did 10+ years ago].

He was on high profile teams.:noidea:

It is funny though. Pat Woodcock had twice as many receptions. Whodathunk?

Yeah - I gotcha. Makes sense.

Avant has been mentioned as a slow guy who runs good routes and has a knack for getting open. That sounds like what Lewis has already shown. Either way - you can't have too many of those guys on a team. A good problem to have.

I think he stood out because he never dropped any throws, and he ran such good routes. Guess that happens when your dad is a WR coach.

Is it accurate to label Lewis a possession receiver?
On most teams that's exactly what he would be, but we don't have enough talent on the outside (yet) to really use him in that role.

Let's not let a play or two define the rest of the kid's career.

It was a bad drop, but c'mon.

you mean like Tim Lane ? His drop was only for a 1st down to. Ben dropped 2 TD passes in the same game. And no it doesn't define his career for me. But labeling him a possession receiver is off. If you needed to pick one kid to make a catch he wouldn't be at the top of your list.

I'm thinking we label possession receivers as the guys who are slow, and not really the guys who catch everything. Because you wouldn't label Ishmael as a possession receiver would you?

I see... but now you compare him to Tim Lane, who might be the worst starting WR in the modern history of the program?

It was a big drop. It happens. The benchmark needn't be perfection. The kid has otherwise shown that he has good hands [yes, I'm aware he had another high profile drop] and has produced at a very impressive clip for a kid who many people wanted to move to another position before the year started. He's had a bigger impact on the passing game than either Broyld or Estime--who would have thought that going in?

Possession receiver to me is more how the player is utilized within the offensive concept, not what his measureables are.

Some of those wounded ducks are the hardest darn things to catch. They take forever to get to you. It is like slow motion.

Rice Moss takes exception to that statement

Ben Lewis is as clear cut possession receiver as it comes. I don't want to jump on Lewis at all... but I do think its funny that I was criticized for saying we lost our 2 best wr's 2 weeks ago in Estime and Broyld. 1 poster responded Lewis and West were our 2 best. It is really funny how much has changed since then.

Again... Im not trying to be critical of Lewis, only the poster who said he was our best WR. I hope Lewis has a good career here. But my guess is he will end up at TE in another year or 2... hell he looks like 1 now.

Lowes dad was a wr coach? Wasn't he the team doc?
Am I thinking of someone else? I could have sworn that back during those days I heard his dad coached wide receivers at some level.

Must be. Don Lowe headed up sports med at SU. Went to Tech after I think.
