ESPN's new power rankings are out and Ole Miss drops to #13. I tend to think today's power rankings are pretty accurate, but I'm curious to see how the official rankings play out.
I was surprised to see that the SEC West is almost undefeated against the SEC East this season. Looks like Georgia beating Arkansas 45-32 is the only SEC West loss although I may be mistaken. Clearly the SEC West is the best conference division in college football this season, but by how much exactly? That's impossible to know, but we do know that Missouri has a chance to win the SEC East AGAIN. To be in a position in November to win the division a second time is no fluke. How difficult is the overall SEC schedule this season really?
Talk to anyone in the SEC and they stay up at night worried (not really but close) that every team in the SEC West will end up with 2 losses. This remains unlikely, but it is a clear possibility. In that case does any team from the SEC West make the playoff? Probably, but it would depend on how many 1 loss teams remain and boy could that stir up some emotion.
Yesterday evening I spent 30 seconds on the SEC channel during halftime of the Tenn-Carolina game. It was enough time to hear one of the studio reporters say that "some people" are suggesting that the winner of the of the Auburn-Ole Miss game will jump Florida State because FSU struggled to beat Louisville. Okay, but who are those "some people", and are those "some people" also suggesting that Miss State will be jumped over because of it's close wins over Kentucky and Arkansas?
I'm loving this playoff. It's much more fun to observe than the old system!
