All I kept thinking about watching the game is how our board would have been in total meltdown mode watching those wacked out formations and play calls. How about that fake 'whatever that was.' Im not totally sold on Shafs gameday planning yet, but he outclassed Doeren who was terribly unimpressive as an HC

If you're nc state and not confident to just line up and beat wake and Syracuse without that nonsense, that's a giant issue! They're a complete mess.

Shafer made a mistake or two from a game-management perspective, but obviously he gets a pass considering the result (I refuse to complain after conference road wins). But you're right on Doeren. He was an in-game coaching disaster. Going for it on 4th down after we roughed the kicker? You need to take the free points there. Add on the ridiculous fake kick. Headscratching coaching moves to say the least.

Isn't that swinging gate thing Chip Kelly's?

I was in meltdown mode just seeing it. Those formations weren't just stupid they were completely ineffective. Seriously, has that worked for them at all this season?

he is a very good coach trying to do anything to help an undermaned team. He was down to his fourth qb yesterday im really glad we have shafer but i think this guy gets it done at ncstate

I still want Diaco.

But will give SS a shot.

I look at it a different way. He's undermanned/under talented at a lot of spots and knew he needed to try something to compete.

In other words, if he thought he could beat our front 7 straight up he would have tried to. You don't come out running formations like that if that's not the case. We couldve/shouldve blown them out badly if not for some suspect penalties and some mental mistakes by our coaches and players. We go up 7-0 righ out of the gate if not for that phantom hold call on macky to put us in 2nd and 18. Were a different team playing with the lead.

Also consider how few penalties they had. That's one major sign of a well-coached team.

We'll see what happens next year when UF transfer Jacoby Brissett is eligible at QB. He's quite a talent, and apparently tailor-made for the system. If they don't make a big jump next year, then the questions should start.
