How is Verne Lundquist able to talk so well...

I like Verne and actually have met him and have had dinner at his home in Steamboat Springs (long story). However, he needs to hang it up. Among other errors in the last UK game; he could not get the Harrison twins right and was really struggling. Come on Verne just learn their numbers on the jerseys.

He's just way behind the game all the time. Anyone hear him butcher Arinze's name? Didn't pronounce the vowel at the end.

um yeah, cbs ought to let him do the two holes at the Masters and that's it. he just can't keep up with a game - it's like he's 4 seconds behind every play

He was 46 seconds ahead of the guys on the radio I was listening to. There was actually a 50 second gap between the action and the commentary.

Lots of gaffes. At one time, I thought he might have had a few too many cocktails. When that Louisville player (Rozier)? hit the basket support, he became hysterical. Wayyyyyy over the top

I thought the same thing. Sure it was a rough hit but I don't think Rozier was in danger of dying.

Are you sure the radio broadcast didn't have a seven second delay? WHAM 1180 in Rochester usually runs games on delay.

I timed it with my watch. A guy made a three and they announced it on the radio 50 seconds later. They were always a couple of possessions behind.

He is 74, so this can't be an actual surprise, right?
Hubie Brown's 81, he's as good a color guy as there is in the game. He also probably gets to the gym more often than Verne does, poor Verne looks like he's gonna explode. He's hugeUHHHH.

That one female announcer in the ville/ncstate game looked like she was at love at first sight with everyone she interviewed. In the postgame Pitino couldn't even talk to her it was so bad he had to walk away laughing.

Have to admit I did enjoy it :)

I love Verne, but I wouldn't mind seeing him stick with golf these days. There's a sport where he won't fall behind, and he's terrific at events like the Masters.

His gaffes continued even after that game was over in his praise of Rozier and his sportsmanship of going over to what he thought was the State radio network to speak with Bob Valvano...doop, it was L'ville's own radio network...which he later acknowledged by uttering, what was I thinking?

I wonder if he's actually "lost a step". I wouldn't be surprised if we went back 20 years and listened to games he called and noticed regular brainfarts.

I enjoy listening to his folksy voice.
