Using last years 25th rankings as a point of comparision.

Yards per game, last year 48th, needs another 40 yds per game to reach 25th.

Attempts per game, 25th.

Yds per attempt, last year 87, needs 1.5 yds more per attempt to reach 25th

TD's, last year 36th, he would need 4 more to reach 25th.

Int's, last year 81st, he would need 4 less to reach 25th.

QB rating, last year 64th, need to improve by 18pts to reach 25th.

Completion %, last year 47th, needs to complete 2.5% more to reach 25th.

Total yds, last year 50th, needs 600 more to reach 25th.

Total attempts, 31st, needs 23 more to reach 25th.

Total completions, 31st, needs 18 more to reach 25th

Bowl game and he's there.

i think the improvement in other areas would help him get there.

Complete one deep ball per game, he hits many of these.

Can he have a Nunesian senior year improvement? A healthy and focused Sales, a healthy Lemon, they would be very helpful. But OL in general, running game, TEs, they can't be below average.

I'd take an RJ Anderson or Perry Patterson senior improvement.

Good point. No McNabb among them (or combined), but each of the 3 played noticeably better their 4th year than they did in the first 3.

translating into % improvements
ypg 18% improvement
ypa 23% improvement
TDs 18% improvement
INTs 44% improvement
Rating 13% improvement
Comp % 4% improvement
Yards 22% improvement
att 6%
comp 7%

the more granular you break stuff down, the less significant the change looks

he only needs 1.5 more yards per attempt. doesn't sound like a big deal. but that's 23% improvement - 23% better is a lot

everything else takes care of itself if YPA goes up, but that is a tall order to ask someone to get almost 25% better per pass on average (not literally 25% better on every pass - long balls would get it done).

most the top 25 in YPA last year were all very good except for the guys like jacory harris who are totally careless

long shot

We'll see - IF, he can complete the deep ball and rollout bootleg passes with a bit more consistency, he could definitely hit that increase...

I think that is a BIG 'IF', however.

I.E. can he improve his accuracy skill this year or is he is who who is at this point, in that regard?

a deep ball a game doesn't sound like much but 13 extra deep balls a year is a lot.

theres a flip side of breaking things down into small enough pieces. no one ever looks at how much worse things would be with one less this or that.

I think that up to this point, Nassib has outperformed them all. Best since McNabb, IMO. I know he could use more touch on his short passes, and more accuracy on his long ones, but what this kid has accomplished behind some terrible offensive line play, and consistently injured or suspended wide receivers, is pretty damn impressive. If the line is even average this year, and we have an average running game, and people stay healthy, Nassib will have a great year.

I want to believe...

I agree, part of Nassib's stats are muddled by horrendous line play not to mention the simple passes that he drilled receivers in the numbers and they dropped the ball (some in the end zone, etc... horror flashes from LY are now surfacing...)

If all cylinders click at the serviceable level this year, I think he'll have a solid year..

As I think more about it, even McNabb stepped up his game his senior year. His passing was more accurate than any previous year, if you pretend the NC State game didn't happen, like I do.

Nassib has to be better. He can't let his lack of confidence on deep passes turn him into Captain Checkdown. It can still look nice in the stats, but it doesn't mean, he, or the offense is having a good year. And I know it's not all his fault, but it's not all the OL's either, nor all the RB's, nor all the WR's, nor all the TE's. Everyone needs to be better. But Nassib is the most important one that needs to improve.

For whatever tiny amount it's worth, one of the nice highlights from OAA's practice coverage yesterday was Nassib throwing a bomb and hitting Sales in stride. Not full pads, no pass rush, easiest of scenarios. But still, anything that's not an overthrow, and anything that's going to Sales deep, looks good to me.

YPA in conference games last year. Look at the top, look at the bottom. Ignore nassib. Would YPA look like a pretty good stat for judging how good a passer guys were?

saying that he needs to improve 23% to hit the top 25 isn't all that encouraging.

that's like asking a running back to go from 5 yards to 6.23 yards per attempt.

I agree that Ryan needs to jack his game. I think the number I want to see is 300yards/game. not unrealistic giving the running game and WRs on the roster.couchburn
