Evaluating quarterbacks is not a science and it seems even the experts get it wrong more times than they get it right. You can have all the tangible qualities of a great QB and never be able to put it together in an actual game situation. Allen was probably better in practice and that is all the coaches see until games are played. I think the coaching staff did a pretty good job figuring it out as fast as they did. There just seems to be something totally unpredictable about QB performance. It's cheesy but call it the X factor. You can have the strongest art, the most accurate throw and the best ability to read the defense but unless you can put that together in a real game situation your not a good QB.
