Listening to Ewing on Green’s radio show and when he was asked who he considered his biggest rival in the Big East he said St. John’s and Mullin. That’s blasphemous, especially to Pearl. He didn’t even mention Syracuse at first when discussing the Big East, instead naming St. John’s, Nova, and Uconn and then goes on to name Mullin and Pinckney as great players without naming Pearl. Ridiculous. All I can say is it’s 11:45...

If I remember correctly, I can somewhat see his train of thought, especially in regards to St. John's. They were a better team than us when they had Mullen, Walter Berry & company and challenged G'Town more than we did. Nova, perhaps is a bit perplexing, but 'Nova did beat them in the title game when all 3 of the aforementioned made that Final Four that year. So, that stands for something.

Although GTown was a big Rival of ours at the time, if I recall correctly, they had our number more times than not in the Ewing era. The year we played Indiana for the national championship, GTown beat us 3 times that season, including a relatively easy W in the Big East Championship game.

Absurd.
But what do you expect...especially the way the Orange have left him in tears in all but one of the games since he became head coach.

The larger point though...wasn't the old Big East great?
SU, SJU, Nova and later UConn...all great teams with great players and iconic coaches.
There may also have been another team...but the name escapes me.

I'm sorry but I have never cared one whit about anything Pat Ewing had to say. I expect that to continue.

We're seeing this through orange-colored glasses:

1981-82: Georgetown 30-7, St. John's 21-9, Syracuse 16-13
1982-83: St. John's 28-5, Georgetown 22-10, Syracuse 21-10
1983-84: Georgetown 34-3, Syracuse 23-9, St. John's 18-12
1984-85: Georgetown 35-3, St. John's 31-4, Syracuse 22-9
TOTAL: Georgetown 121-23 St. John's 98-30, Syracuse 82-41

I see what you’re saying and can see it coming from Ewing’s perspective while playing, but his initial mention of Georgetown, SJU, Nova and Uconn was in response to how good the Big East was in its heyday in the 80’s. Based on the setup of that question, I suggest Ewing sits back down and rewatches The 30 for 30: Requiem for the Big East so he can realize the popularity of the Big East was magnified by the SU-G’town rivalry. I’m sure he’ll have time to watch since his team won’t be playing in any postseason basketball. Heck he could even cancel practice to watch since it’s not like his players are gaining anything from his coaching anyways  .

UConn? Nobody even remembers that they were in the league before Tate George played.

Their Sr year he and Mullin led their teams to 1 loss regular seasons (to each other) as I recall
