1. There is still upside with the offense. They put up 40 on a very good Uconn defense in 3 Q's. They put up 34 in a half against a very athletic USF team.

They still can be cleaner with the OL dead ball stuff that is hurting them. And obviously taking care of business inside the 5.

They are moving the ball almost at since the Pitt game without really long plays. They are getting 10 yd runs and 25 yd passes, but only a handful of 30+ plays.

There are still parts of the offense that we have only seen glimpses of, namely the play action game and the TE.

With the greater emphasis on using the power run game with the pass game this is now one of the most balanced and diverse offenses in the country. Multiple isn't a bad word, and being able to game plan to take advantage of the opponent instead of trying to hide weaknesses is a nice change.

2. The defense that they played Sat. was just flatout unsound. They have shown they can play, and scheme, much better. Great thing is that they have this on film and can adjust the approach the rest of the way. Also it was a great lesson is keeping the play in front of you when playing an athletic QB. There were many instances where they had Daniels dead to rights if they were sound instead of lunging, if they had just held their ground backside help was a step or two away. Over playing and over pursuing was the biggest issue last week.

If Sat. was an aberration this defense will be fine.

The next three teams have significant strenghts, but also big weaknesses that can be exploited. SU has the capability (and that what "turned the corner" is about) and realistic chance to win these next three games, and that is the first time you could say that since 2004.

I just think that Saturday was a match up problem for the defense and Cincy will cause much of the same problems if they have as good of an oline as USF.

The team has a significant challenge with being consistent. Most parts of the team have shown good & sometimes great things in the games, but we've also had significant lapses and weaknesses. We're playing better teams mostly on the road and need to play cleanly, something we've struggled with. We've had the same opportunities all season with mixed results. We need to play like we did in the second half against USF earlier in games. Playing from behind can build character, but has a poor winning percentage.

heck...if they win the next three, then what's up with the fourth

It's because they can actually run the ball, it's not because they are going empty and throwing 60 times a game.
Mmm. No.

I was right the first time.

It's 'cuz videogames. That's all.

I think poor tackling was as much of anything that caused our problems. The sideline is every team's 12th player on the field . Gotta force the ball carrier to that area and cut them off. Also catching some of those INTs in our reach would help a great deal. I think we had at least three drops in that game that should have been take aways by our secondary.;)

No doubt, when the ball is in the air make the play and as always tackling, tackling tackling.

BJ is a great player. Great players make plays. Munchie is good as well but not the same player as BJ still i think that Cincy is the toughest challange we have the rest of the way. They are looking at a 3 game L streak if we win and you can bet they are going to be loaded for Bear. Turnovers are the reason we have won and lost games this year. SF was won based on turnovers. Without the punt block and the fumble we end up on the short end of the stick. Turnovers can win the Cincy game as well. For my part im still really concerned about our problems in the redzone. In the last two weeks we have given up 4 great opportunities. I for one think that Doug may want to use a time out next time we have the ball inside of the 5 to make sure that we are set no penalties and everyone is on the same page. West Lemon Sales and Chris are becoming a pretty good group of recievers add in Flemming if he is better and we are solid there. Smith is really coming on reading his blocks better and running north and south which is his strength. PTG nice as well and Ashton has shown that he can carry the rock so solid weapons at the RB spot. TE is solid. Hope we continue to use Stevens as he has good hands and speed. I would like to see a shot down the seam against Cincy to Stevens as i believe it could be open. Still the biggest factor has been the OL. What a difference JP has made. And Mack is really playing well. Never thought i would say that but im very impressed with him. All in all we can play with anyone we play. If we can take advantage of the redzone and win the turnover battle we will win each of our games including LV at home. I said that doug would get a fair extension with 5 wins and i still believe that to be the case. I dont think that anything will be announced until after the season. 6 wins and a bowl and i could see a 3-5 year extension. Hope they increase some money for the staff especially Shafer. Go Cuse!

I agree. But my enthusiasm is tempered when I recall the heady expectations on this board around this point last season, about winning the BE title, a BCS Bowl berth, etc. and we proceeded to lose 5 in a row and completely miss-out on the post-season.

After some early season heart-breaking losses, this team has battled back to put itself in a position to finish in the top half of the conference and gain a bowl berth. It would be a shame to leave those achievements sitting on the table, so to speak.

Cincy's pass defense is much, much worse. We should be able to rack up yards at will. Turn it into a shootout and we'll win that game.

How is their offensive line?

Worse than USF's? I thought they might be ball sharks but not that efficient due to the gambles. It's like playing in the Big 12 for a couple of weeks, next up Texas the Heisman makers.

Eh I might have exaggerated a bit but we should be able to put up at least 300 in the air.

They have a good running game based on the stats but I haven't really seen much of their OLine play.

I hope we can just win. Don't care how, don't care about anything except walking away at 5-4 and 4-1 in the BE. That would be a helluva turnaround after the Rutgers game.

After missing the last 2 games with an "upper body injury", the career of Bearcats star DE and leading pass rusher, Walter Stewart, is apparently over. Sadly, it is due to some sort of congenital defect in his spine that was discovered, ending his bright career. I'm reminded of some of the similar afflictions that have snakebit SU in the past (Curtis, Pierce, etc.).

That is a shame. Hopefully he gets his education and has a successful life outside of playing football.

The difference to me this season is that we've done so much better in conference.

Gives me hope.

Our defense can play a lot better. Bromley had first bad game in a while, which is okay. He has been playing at an all-Big East level at DT. The LBs need the DL to eat up the blockers so they can fill the holes. Against USF our D overloaded a lot on 1 side and Daniels would simply keep or give it to the back into the empty space away from the overload. The key to our defense is the front 7. If the front 7 play like they did against USF all our games will be shootouts for us to win.

Stewart's Career Over

Unfortunate for him, had a Sunday career in his future. I know who will be giving Cincy their pre-game pep talk.
