Don't be ridiculous. I'm not saying Hunt will pass for more yards than Nassib. And I never implied I want his number to be retired. Those are your words. I am saying he has the potential to be a better college QB than Nassib was. Nassib had a great senior year - no denying that. He was less than average as a sophomore, average at best as a junior. ESPN has a total QB rating that rates college QBs based on four categories - value added on passing plays, running plays, sacks and penalties. He was the 36th-best QB nationally based on this metric in 2012. Top 5 of Manziel, Mariota, Geno (great outside of vs. Syracuse), Tajh Boyd and AJ McCarron. 65th as a junior, 106th (?!) as a sophomore. Hunt doesn't have to do a whole lot to be ranked better than 106th in the nation. As you might expect, Nassib was tremendous passing the ball as a senior (+65.6, 17th in nation). Made a lot of good reads and was able to move the chains with short/intermediate plays. He also had terrible negative rushing expectation (-1.2, 86th in nation) and a bad sack expectation (64th in nation). Meaning he is a detriment running the ball and his sacks were very harmful to the offense. Was very good with penalties (12th in nation), which is expected based on his knowledge of the offense and having fewer offensive penalties than most other teams we faced. Hunt can add + values to the run category and I believe the sack expectation will also improve. While his passing arguably may never be as good as Nassib's was (I think it can be), what he brings to the table just strictly with his ability to get positive yards running the ball will make him more effective. It's all about the team improving at every single position. And I believe Hunt brings the capabilities to improve at the position. Even now.
