Will be interesting to see if he progresses much more this season but he has taken some steps. I was frusterated seeing incompletions following the gamecast at work but I rewatched the first half last night and saw a few things. 1) he does have great pocket awareness but almost to a fault at this point. I think he's pulling his eyes off the recievers too quickly vs feeling pressure with his eyes still down field. This can improve though with experience. Had he thrown 50 times a game in high school he'd probably be better now but such js life for a qb prospect out of nyc vs tx, fla, cal, etc. 2) he needs just a bit more touch on his long throws but he's getting better. He barely missed West down the sideline and estime down the middle. Those are probably catches those guys make in practice but are a bit slower in full pads working off jams on the line. I think west couldve layed out and made the catch but tried to catch it in stride instead. Possibly estime as well but if he lead him like he did west he probably has the extra half step to get there. 3) its hard to throw without your feet set and this is the issue I'm seeing a fair amount. He moves the pocket, which is great, but doesn't always reset before throwing. He was set on the downfield completion to west and the ball was perfectly placed. 4) playcalling is getting a bit better but still not great for what he can do well right now. Play action on 3rd and 10? On what planet does that make sense? Need to get him more intermediate looks vs only screens and deep stuff. Occasionally we use the TE and I think perhaps we've figured out that is a young qb's best friend but then they disappear again. This is one area where we can cause matchup issues and I'm hoping we figure it out for the maryland gameplan.
