I believe in Dajuan Coleman

The problem is that getting a big guy to coach doesn't mean he knows how to coach the position. Ted Williams couldn't teach guys how to hit a baseball, and Kareem arguably the best center ever can't get a coaching job anywhere.

All that matters is that Dejuan brings it come Indiana and on.

My only point is that playing the center position doesn't seem to make a difference regarding the coaching ability for it.

I was just asking anyone (didn't mean to point you out) if there were any stats or empirical knowledge to back up the repeated assertion I read here that basketball coaches who played center would be the best coaches for that position. Thought there might be some evidence I wasn't aware about. I do agree that our centers haven't progressed like we'd have liked to. Bernie Fine was known as a big man expert but he didn't even play the game.
Shouldn't you be the one to supply stats or empirical evidence to your assertion that playing the center position doesn't matter? Because the default position absent evidence to the contrary is that the person who experienced the position, who went through the training, who was coached at the position has the advantage over those of us who didn't go through that.

Your example of people who aren't centers who did well does not dispel the idea that absent reason to believe otherwise the best option to train our bigs would be an experienced big.

To bring this to our current situation, Hop looks like he is in over his head. We haven't had a post scorer since RJ and we have run in a series of McDs for him to work with. DC2 looks like the most coachable kid you could ask for. And yet at the end of the game if you were picking sides for another game the first center picked could realistically have been the lumberjack from Colgate. That's not right.

So, if you wanted another bigs coach who are you suggesting and why?

We haven't had a guard who could get the ball down low to our bigs in years.

Christmas and Coleman can be effective down low if they are fed the ball.
