Wow, that conference got completely disrespected. Its conference champion was a 15 seed.

I get CUSA has been gutted recently with teams moving to the American but that conference champion shouldn't be a 14 seed. Iona/Green Bay/Buffalo got seeded higher than the CUSA champion.

We can't take this team lightly as they have talent. It wasn't a small conference team. CUSA was the 22nd ranked conference out of 32 in the RPI.

I hear ya man, but this isn't the conference USA of 15 years ago that cincy dominated. They scored 55 against old dominion before putting up 90 yesterday and were ranked in the bottom half of division 1 in offenses before yesterday's game. Frankly this is a game that I'm sooo happy we play zone, because if we were a man to man offensive team I'd be more concerned. Make this a half court game, stop dribble penetration and we win 67-53.

Yup. A lot of people were befuddled when they came out as a 15 out of CUSA. deserved a 13 easily

Yeah, Michigan State got boned. (Yes, they should've played better and won.)

This was like Syracuse-Vermont in 2015. Not only is the underdog better than their seed, but there's no valid argument for Michigan State missing out on a 1 in favor of UVA or Oregon.

Maybe the committee didn't either. Here is a good game to play give someone 3 guesses which conference Hawaii plays in. Most people can't get it.

Big West. My aunt's family has ties to Cal Poly and UCSB so I follow it and watch the games when they are (infrequently) on ESPN3.

22 out of 32 conferences correlates to the last 14 seed. So based on conference ranking it is not totally out of place.

27-32 16 seeds
23-26 15 seed.

In terms of KenPom my guess was that they were the #9 worst team (somewhere between #8 and #11 worst) entering the tournament, which fits the seed,

UAB lost 5 games before the CUSA tournament, and was not even considered as a bubble buster. It is just not a strong league, or even good by mid-major standards.

Seventh worst I think.

I thought they were in the MWC earlier this year. Not sure when they moved to the Big West. And why would they make the move?

But I will give you a much harder question. Name 3 current WAC teams (which was the old home of Hawaii)

People will probably be able to get to 3 of the old WAC. But the new WAC is a hot mess (team wise and Geographical wise)

The CUSA and the WAC got whacked the most by conference realignment.

Thanks, I'm trying to guess knowing that they jumped up quite a bit after the victory yesterday.

This is the perfect storm for a team to struggle against the zone. A team that isnt familiar with it and only 1 day to prepare for it.

UAB was the CUSA champion last year and got a 14 seed. They then beat Iowa State in the first round before losing to UCLA in the 2nd round.

CUSA needs a little more respect in the next couple of years. 14 and 15 seeds and they are winning games back to back years.

I would think the league champion should be given a little more respect.

I feel bad for New Mexico State, which was a good program at one time. I can't believe that Seattle is the 2nd oldest WAC member and has been there 5 years.

UAB is the only real program left. CUSA is pretty much the old Sunbelt. Yes they should be getting a 14 seed and not a 15 seed but anything more than that is too much.

when ranking the lower conferences in the bracket i have always thought rpi played a big roll and top 100 rpi wins. think i had them as a 14 on my mock so a 15 isnt unreasonable

they are almost treated like the SWAC

Hopefully they will come out flat after their big win.

Just for a little comparison, not that it means much, but they played Charlotte twice. Beat them by one the first time, and blew them out the second time.

I know it isnt the same, but don't they play zone, hence practicing against it regularly?
