people who want syracuse football to go up tempo now are probably overestimating how much better it will make the offense and not factoring in the extra plays the other team gets
 
same as stall ball - people think it makes the offense worse than it actually does per possession and fail to recognize the value of extra possessions. I think the difference between stall ball haters and non haters is the stall ball haters don't pay enough attention to free throws. it's hideous esthetically but most of the time, just pounding the ball into the floor, drawing fouls and making a free throw tossing in a bad percentage shot here or there is good enough when you're giving the other team so few chances.
 
Boeheim's greatest attribute is his ability to do rough math in his head. It's not like he's some beautiful mind carrying the 1 in his head, he just has such a great memory for patterns and is so bright about making accurate and fast estimations. I think his instinctive and accurate thinking about probabilities rules his whole program. SU vs Georgia, don't call the timeout to let the defense set - probabilities. 2-3 zone - probabilities. no shootaround? probabilities - why bother if it doesn't give you anything? it helps recruiting by not turning the game into a chore for players, it helps him stay balanced with family and golf and charity allowing him to coach longer, it keeps good assistants happy.
