From what I've seen on other boards, he chose to because of scheduling. He will be doing the PBP of the ESPN featured evening game next fall. There were times when they did GameDay in one place and then flew to another for the featured game, especially when they did GameDay at one of the SEC schools, but the game itself was on CBS and not ESPN. Maybe that got to be a real drag? Why do you think Fowler had to move on?
What will he be doing?
i don't know if i'll ever watch the basketball version. digger phelps dancing is not funny it's just sad and awkward. even if phelps isn't there any more, i can't watch because it just reminds me of iti thought fowler didnt do hoop?
or at least not recently.
edit: nevermind, i am on the football board. i cant keep track anymore...

I'd rather have Davis replace Fowler than Lundquist. Verne deserves a more worthy successor. Here is what happened. Last year Fowler's contract expired he used leverage of FS1/NBC/CBS to get what he wanted Brent Musberger's gig doing the best college football game on ESPN. So ESPN had to give it to Fowler or risk losing him. They put Brent out to pasture on the SEC Network so Fowler could get the job he wanted and not techincally get Brent fired.
So last year Fowler got to eat his cake and have it to by hosting College Gameday AND get to play-by-play for the best game each week on ESPN. Fast forward this year Rece Davis's contract was set to expire and CBS wanted him to replace Verne Lundquist on the SEC game of the week on CBS and host college basketball during the NCAAT. Davis used this leverage to get what he wanted which was to get the hell away from having to handle Mark May and Lou Holtz each week. Thus, Davis gets College Gameday and Fowler gets to keep what he wanted which was Brent's job as the #1PBP college football guy for ESPN.
Now the obvious first replacement for Fowler would have been Joe Tessatore but he didn't have any leverage and Davis has to give up Thursday Night football on ESPN. Fans want Brent Musberger to get this slot or atleast higher than SECN, but ESPN is likely going to replace Davis with Tessatore or Dave Pasch.

there are 100 million awesome games to show highlights from and they waste postgame on that stuff.Positive side. No more of that dumbass court thing him and that clown may did with marble mouth.
