Defensive exodus may have yet begun…Thursday nights panic now seems silly.
No exodus behind White
Promotion of Beck that most people wanted anyway
NC game in Soccer
Hoops rejuvenation
2 or 3 new football commits
Feeling great actually
I suspect the decision to make Monroe the interim DC helps here a lot.Defensive exodus may have yet begun…
Would be interested in hearing from coaches on the board but I would think that DC White during the week was having meetings with the defensive staff only watching new opponent tape or reviewing prior game tape going over calls, formations, opposing offensive sets, etc and working through play calls on defense, why calls worked or didn't. On top of that in practice Swag is likely making some defense calls in the backfield and his hearing calls made by White. To the board coaches am I framing that right? If so I would think Swag will have had plenty of time learning from White to maybe run this defense. Plus we have our dline and cornerback coaches still here. Again White coached the 3-3-5 1 year only before Syracuse.
Good points and don't disagree. I was speaking more to those who said Swag only had 3 years of 3-3-5. I think 3 years would be plenty of time for an experienced coach to understand the x's and o's. Completely agree there is more though. There’s a lot more to coaching than just being familiar with the style of defense. Otherwise any assistant doing the same thing would make at least a decent coordinator and they don’t.
There’s a whole management aspect that’s important but that to me isn’t even the biggest issue. Really good HC’s and coordinators see things other coaches don’t. They see plays being set up by the other team, they are thinking ahead like chess, they call plays at the right time. All of those things are unknowns whether Monroe is good at that. Just knowing what’s going on and how the defense works is the bare minimum at this level. This isn’t plug and play.

I think he or dline coach could do it. It’s been 3 years using this d I believe. Any coach worth anything should be able to pick up the intricacies of this defense. They also could make subtle changes to it according to how they feel it would be better.Would be interested in hearing from coaches on the board but I would think that DC White during the week was having meetings with the defensive staff only watching new opponent tape or reviewing prior game tape going over calls, formations, opposing offensive sets, etc and working through play calls on defense, why calls worked or didn't. Depends on how strong the roof is.Would we be able to recognize the sky falling since SU plays in a Dome?
