Thursday nights panic now seems silly.
No exodus behind White
Promotion of Beck that most people wanted anyway
NC game in Soccer
Hoops rejuvenation
2 or 3 new football commits

Feeling great actually

Thursday was rough understandably but I think ADJW and Dino mitigated the situation rather well. For all we know, they may have even anticipated it. Let’s give credit to where credit is due. We may have just weathered a major storm.

Just hope we hire a good DC who can have a good defense immediately with the players we have. Next year is set up to be a good one and there’s a lot of talent on the defensive side - I’d hate to see a promising season ruined because of growing pains in adjusting to a new scheme or something.

Losing White is pretty big but it couldn’t have been totally unexpected. Many here said he would be getting offers. Promoting Beck to OC takes the sting out of losing Anae. If we lost Beck, oh my but we didn’t.

We will be OK.

Defensive exodus may have yet begun…

Would be interested in hearing from coaches on the board but I would think that DC White during the week was having meetings with the defensive staff only watching new opponent tape or reviewing prior game tape going over calls, formations, opposing offensive sets, etc and working through play calls on defense, why calls worked or didn't. On top of that in practice Swag is likely making some defense calls in the backfield and his hearing calls made by White. To the board coaches am I framing that right? If so I would think Swag will have had plenty of time learning from White to maybe run this defense. Plus we have our dline and cornerback coaches still here. Again White coached the 3-3-5 1 year only before Syracuse.

There’s a lot more to coaching than just being familiar with the style of defense. Otherwise any assistant doing the same thing would make at least a decent coordinator and they don’t.

There’s a whole management aspect that’s important but that to me isn’t even the biggest issue. Really good HC’s and coordinators see things other coaches don’t. They see plays being set up by the other team, they are thinking ahead like chess, they call plays at the right time. All of those things are unknowns whether Monroe is good at that. Just knowing what’s going on and how the defense works is the bare minimum at this level. This isn’t plug and play.

Good points and don't disagree. I was speaking more to those who said Swag only had 3 years of 3-3-5. I think 3 years would be plenty of time for an experienced coach to understand the x's and o's. Completely agree there is more though.

Yeah I think you’re right with that. I’m sure he knows it well enough to be able to run it. I don’t think that’s probably a huge concern or shouldn’t be.

Monroe has been the Defensive Pass Game Coordinator, yes? That seems relevant. Also he was co-Defensive Coordinator at Colgate for several years, yes? That seems relevant too. Maybe it’s just his time.

I think he or dline coach could do it. It’s been 3 years using this d I believe. Any coach worth anything should be able to pick up the intricacies of this defense. They also could make subtle changes to it according to how they feel it would be better.

I wonder how much more White had left in the tank to implement as well? Did we have all the schemes and now its more teaching and using them? The learning curve for the kids here the whole time had to be over.

We dont know who was doing the scouting to help decide the game plans.
We dont know how much of Whites decisions were based on whatever was being fed from the box upstairs.
We dont know how much grooming was going on.

I think the feeling is that Beck was being groomed for the OC here or somewhere.

White knew he might go so maybe there was some discussion of who might step in short/long term on the D side as well
